Africa-Press – Liberia. Monrovia-The much-anticipated launch of the “Operation Feed the Nation, Liberia” Campaign, spearheaded by the World Foundation International Multipurpose Agriculture Cooperative (WFI-MAC), remains firmly on course, despite a temporary postponement due to the absence of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai from the country.

The launch, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Monrovia City Hall, has been rescheduled for a later date to be announced, according to WFI executives.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Boulevard Palace Hotel on October 30, WFI Chief Executive Officer Lincoln Z. Cooper and Board Chair Dr. John Wulu confirmed that all preparations for the grand event have been completed, but the cooperative decided to hold off the ceremony out of respect for the President’s role as Keynote Speaker and as the chief promoter of the ARREST Agenda, whose first pillar emphasizes Agriculture.

“The event is not cancelled,” said Mr. Cooper.

“We have only postponed the launch because President Boakai’s presence is vital to this national cause. Once he returns, we will proceed immediately. All logistics, farmer mobilization, and partner coordination are fully in place.”

The postponed launch was expected to assemble thousands of farmers from all 15 counties, development partners, government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps.

A colorful farmers’ parade and an indoor ceremony were also planned to mark the beginning of what WFI describes as a five-year movement to transform Liberia’s agricultural sector.

Despite the delay, the “Feed the Nation” campaign continues to move forward at the operational level.

WFI-MAC reaffirmed its commitment to its strategic vision of empowering 52,500 farmers nationwide, promoting food self-sufficiency, and reducing Liberia’s dependency on food imports, which currently costs the nation an estimated US$200 million annually.

“This is not just a program, it is a movement,” Mr. Cooper emphasized earlier at the campaign’s initial announcement on October 4, at WFI headquarters.

“We are launching a nationwide call to action to rescue our farmers and feed our nation.”

Under the banner “Rescue Farmers”, WFI-MAC is working with women, youth, and resource-limited farmers through signed MOUs for farmland access, community partnerships, and training programs that aim to improve livelihoods, expand market access, and strengthen local cooperatives.

A Five-Year Vision Toward Food Sovereignty 2025–2030

The “Feed the Nation” initiative is anchored in a Five-Year Agricultural Operations and Development Plan (2025–2030)

The plan includes, boosting agricultural productivity through climate-smart technologies, providing quality seeds, fertilizers, and tools to farmers, establishing agro-processing hubs in all 15 counties, expanding local and regional market access, Supporting vulnerable farmers with healthcare, shelter, and microgrants, as well as Strengthening cooperative governance and accountability mechanisms

In addition, WFI-MAC will lead Liberia’s first national agricultural data survey to build a comprehensive farmer and food insecurity database for evidence-based policy interventions.

“No Farmer Left Behind”

WFI Board Chair Dr. John Wulu reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity through agriculture.

“Too many of our farmers have been left out, underserved, ignored, and forgotten,” Dr. Wulu stated.

“This initiative is about reaching every village, every town, and every farmer, no matter how remote. We will empower, rehabilitate, and support them.

He added that beyond farming, “Feed the Nation” seeks to stimulate job creation, export growth, youth and women empowerment, and community development, all aligned with President Boakai’s vision for sustainable national progress.

Awaiting the President’s Return

WFI-MAC assured the public and its partners that the rescheduled launch will take place immediately upon President Boakai’s return, with the same high-profile lineup of national and international guests.

“This is not just about farming,” Dr. Wulu reiterated.

“It’s about nation-building, empowerment, and survival. Agriculture must be the engine of our economic growth, and that engine starts now.”

The “Feed the Nation” campaign will officially run from October 30, 2025, through October 30, 2030, marking five years of dedicated action toward transforming Liberia’s agricultural landscape and achieving lasting food sovereignty.
