Africa-Press – Liberia. Partners in Health (PIH) Liberia, in partnership with the Government of Liberia, has officially handed over three newly constructed and furnished health facilities to the Ministry of Health as part of its Transforming Care for the Critically Ill Program.
The facilities include an Interns’ Residence for Doctors at JJ Dossen Hospital in Harper City and a Call Room at the Pleebo Health Center, among other key infrastructures aimed at strengthening the county’s healthcare system.
Speaking during the official handover ceremony held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, PIH Project Manager Cornelius Teah Doe outlined the key objectives of the initiative. He said the project seeks to strengthen emergency response, improve patient care, support health workforce motivation, and enhance health infrastructure across Maryland County — all geared toward ensuring timely, quality, and sustainable healthcare delivery.
Representing the Ministry of Health, Maryland County Health Officer Dr. Siedoh Freeman expressed deep appreciation to PIH for its continuous partnership and support to the health sector.
“PIH has built our staff and strengthened human resource capacity across the county,” Dr. Freeman said. “They have provided and continue to provide medical supplies that keep JJ Dossen Hospital and other health facilities in the county running, serving as a buttress to the government’s efforts.”
She further praised PIH’s contributions to major infrastructural developments and the improvement of emergency response services, adding,
“The building of the ER, major infrastructures at JJ Dossen Hospital, the Pleebo Health Center, and nearly every sector of our health system — when we talk about a good partner, PIH has truly been that partner.”
Also speaking on behalf of the Maryland local government, Pleebo City Mayor Larry Geekor lauded PIH for its long-standing partnership that extends beyond health facilities to broader community development efforts.
“If I had my own will, I would have changed this name to Partners in Progress instead of Partners in Health,” Mayor Geekor stated, emphasizing the vital and transformative role PIH continues to play within Maryland County.
Meanwhile, Dr. Robert N. Sieh, Resident Representative of the Resident Doctors at JJ Dossen Referral Hospital and one of the direct beneficiaries of the newly constructed Intern Doctors Residence, described the project as a major relief for medical practitioners.
“This is a dream come true,” Dr. Sieh told journalists. “When these facilities are available, we can rest well after work. It boosts our morale and helps us serve our patients better,” he said, commending Partners in Health for their continued investment in the welfare of healthcare workers.
The newly turned-over facilities are expected to improve health workers’ efficiency, ensure quick emergency response, and contribute to overall health system strengthening across Maryland County.
