Jihadists Threaten Mali Activist Urges Liberia's Military Strength

Africa-Press – Liberia. As jihadist fighters affiliated with al-Qaeda tighten their grip around Bamako, the capital of Mali, Liberian Activist Stanley Delano Quaye has called on the Government of Liberia(GoL) to urgently invest more resources in the country’s security and defense sector.

Mr. Quaye’s warning comes amid reports that Mali’s Military Junta and their Russian Allies are struggling to halt the advance of heavily armed jihadist groups that now control vast swaths of territory in the Sahel Region.

“West Africa is falling fast to jihadist fighters, and Liberia needs to be fully ready,” Mr. Quaye cautioned.

He said the situation in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad should serve as a wake-up call for Liberia’s national leadership. Mr. Quaye emphasized that the distance between Bamako and Monrovia is not far, warning that instability in the region could easily spill over into Liberia and its neighbors.

“The jihadists are well-trained, well-armed, and moving fast across borders. If we remain complacent, we may face serious security threats sooner than expected,” he added.

Mr. Quaye also appealed to Liberian lawmakers to demonstrate patriotism by cutting their huge salaries and redirecting the excess funds toward strengthening the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) and other national security institutions.

He pointed out that while 50% of Mali’s territory and nearly 30% of Burkina Faso, Niger, and Chad are under jihadist control, even Nigeria, whose military ranks fifth in Africa, is still struggling to contain militant violence.

The activist’s remarks come at a time when security experts across the region have expressed concerns about the growing influence of extremist groups and the limited capacity of West African nations to respond effectively.
