Africa-Press – Liberia. A Liberian educator Prince S. D. Marley has called on graduates of the Unification Town YMCA Community High School in Lower Margibi County to cultivate self-confidence as they pursue higher education.
Mr. Marley, serving as keynote speaker at the school’s 22nd Commencement Convocation on Sunday, where 104 students graduated, expressed gratitude for the invitation, describing the event as a “blissful, God-given day.”
Speaking on the theme: “Self-Confidence in Pursuit of Tertiary Education,” Mr. Marley explained that self-confidence in an academic environment.
His words, “Self-confidence means having positive belief in your own abilities, skills, and judgment to navigate challenges, achieve goals, and effectively handle the situations that arise when seeking university education.”
He urged the graduates to set clear and attainable goals, saying such discipline creates purpose and builds confidence.
A view of the graduates
Mr. Marley further encouraged students to view setbacks not as failures, but as temporary challenges and opportunities to learn.
At the same time, he beseeched the students to approach challenges as avenues for growth as they transition into tertiary institutions.
Mr. Marley also reminded the graduates of the importance of managing anxiety—particularly during examinations—to maintain focus and achieve desired outcomes.
He urged students to express themselves clearly, seek guidance when needed, and engage confidently with professors and peers, adding that hard work remains a strong determinant of academic success.
Mr. Marley described self-confidence as a foundational virtue for anyone seeking to excel in higher education.
The Liberian educator, however, urged the graduates to seek God’s direction as they enter the next chapter of their academic journey.
“Let us not forget to invoke prayers and God’s guidance in directing our efforts, skills, ideas, focus, and determination,” he urged.
