Africa-Press – Liberia. The University of Liberia (UL) has embraced a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to establish Liberia’s first-ever Master’s Degree program in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The landmark collaboration follows the signing of a standard agreement in August this year, marking the beginning of a transformative initiative to advance innovation, technology, and strategic development in Liberia.

Speaking Thursday at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah welcomed the initiative on behalf of the government, noting that the partnership seeks to promote digital skills and position Liberia as a leader in digital transformation.

According to Minister Piah, the partnership will also lead to the establishment of an Innovation Center on the UL Fendall Campus. During the briefing, Minister Piah described the initiative as a significant step toward creativity and technological advancement, adding that it will help develop the skills needed to prepare Liberia for the global shift toward digital transformation.

If properly utilized, he said, the program has the potential to usher Liberia into an era in which citizens gain broader knowledge of building digital infrastructure and integrating AI across various sectors for the first time.

AI is rapidly transforming systems worldwide, and in Liberia, many citizens, including government officials, are already using AI tools.

Introducing a Master’s program in AI, he added, will further strengthen the country’s growing digital transformation. -Edited by Othello B. Garblah.
