Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Football Association (LFA), through its Women’s Football Department, is officially launching a nationwide Women’s Football Festival today, November 28.
The initiative is strategically aimed at encouraging girls between the ages of 6 and 12 to actively participate in school-based football programs. The festival represents one of the LFA’s most significant grassroots efforts in recent years. It’s designed to strengthen the foundation of women’s football by targeting early involvement in the sport and fostering a stronger developmental pathway for young female athletes across the country.
LFA 3rd Vice President: “This Festival Is Women’s Empowerment”
LFA 3rd Vice President Madam Jodie Reid Seton described the launch as a major milestone in promoting women’s empowerment through sports.
“This festival is a way of empowering young girls and expanding school programs to increase the number of girls playing football,” Madam Seton told reporters. “We want to send a message that women playing football is women empowerment.”
She urged schools, parents, communities, and national stakeholders to rally behind the program and contribute to building a supportive environment for the next generation of female footballers.
Festival to Roll Out Across Five Counties
The LFA confirmed that the Women’s Football Festival will take place across five counties, including: Montserrado (Official Kickoff), Bong,Sinoe,Rivercess and Grand Cape Mount.
The ambitious initiative is expected to reach thousands of school-aged girls, providing them with exposure, inspiration, and the opportunity to participate in organized football activities. The LFA hopes the festival will help communities adopt football as a crucial tool for education, empowerment, and social development.
According to Madam Seton, the festival is also intended to strengthen grassroots football structures and foster interest in the sport from an early age.
Official Kickoff in Montserrado Today
The official launch event takes place today in Montserrado County, beginning with a vibrant parade from 72nd Junction and culminating at the Jacob Town Field. A large turnout of girls, parents, teachers, sports enthusiasts, and community members is highly anticipated.
The LFA confirms the ceremony will feature appearances from both male and female football legends, alongside senior officials of the association. Their participation is intended to inspire young players and emphasize the importance of investing in women’s football at all levels.
Call for National Support
Under the theme “Empower Her, Inspire Greatness,” the festival reflects the LFA’s commitment to creating a strong, inclusive, and competitive environment for young female athletes.
Madam Seton closed with a strong call for national support: “Sports lovers, parents, teachers, and every Liberian that loves women’s football—come out to support your girls. This festival is not just about football; it’s about building confidence, opening opportunities, and empowering the next generation.”
