Africa-Press – Liberia. Representative Robert Womba of the Bong Electoral District #6 and Chairman of the Unity Party(UP) Legislative Caucus of the 55th Legislature has strongly dismissed allegations that he and a few of his colleagues from the Bong County Legislative Caucus deliberately boycotted President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s recent visit to Bong County.
Rep. Womba, responding to a social media post by Voice of Liberia, which claimed that the District #4 lawmaker’s absence from the President’s engagement with traditional chiefs and tribal governors recently held in Gbarnga, Bong County stemmed from a strained relationship with Senator Prince K. Moye, described the report as “false, malicious and a calculated attempt to sow division” within the Bong County Legislative Caucus.
According to Rep. Womba, he remains a “proud Unity Party lawmaker”, a Chairman Emeritus, who has served Bong County for more than a decade, clarifying that under no circumstance would he boycott the President’s visit, especially when significant development projects are currently underway in his district under the Boakai’s Administration.
Among other things, the Bong County District #4 lawmaker cited several major initiatives being undertaken in Zota, Panta, and other parts of the district, including the ongoing construction of a major diagnostic center in Gbalatuah, expected to serve multiple districts and strengthen healthcare delivery in the county, the construction of the long-awaited Four River Bridge, which will connect Zota and Panta, and the continued development of farm-to-market roads aimed at boosting commercial activity and improving access to rural communities.
According to him, these projects are clear demonstrations of President Boakai’s commitment to the people of Bong County and he remains fully supportive of the President’s agenda.
Addressing rumors of internal tension within the Bong County Caucus and allegations of “bad leadership” attributed to Senator Moye, the lawmaker emphasized that he and Senator Moye maintain a cordial working relationship, while describing allegation of a rift within the Bong County legislative Caucus as unfounded, and only intended to “divide and distract leaders from serving their people.”
He clarified that his absence from the President’s meeting was due solely to his being out of the country at the time, a fact he said was formally communicated to the House of Representative plenary.
The lawmaker urged Senator Moye to avoid giving weight to what he called a “snare campaign” aimed at weakening the caucus.
He also encouraged unity and focus among all leaders of Bong County.
He called on all stakeholders of the county, including legislators to remain committed to unity, development, and the collective progress of Bong County and Liberia.
