Africa-Press – Liberia. President of the Female Amputee Team of Liberia, Marie Wonder Gayeflor, says she is “thrilled” and full of confidence as Liberia Men’s Amputee National Team storms into the final of the 1st Edition of the Para Games in Lagos, Nigeria, following a series of commanding and disciplined performances.
Gayeflor, who is leading the Liberian delegation, praised the team’s resilience and determination after a dominant 8–0 demolition of Benin in their second fixture, a result she described as a “statement victory” that has already sent a strong warning to the rest of the competition.
The emphatic win came after Liberia opened their campaign with a hard-fought draw against Cameroon.
Liberia Holds Nigeria in Tense Clash to Reach Final
In their most recent outing, Liberia battled the host nation, Nigeria, to a gripping 0–0 draw, with both countries showcasing exceptional defensive discipline and tactical maturity.
Despite the goalless result, the stalemate was enough to push both Liberia and Nigeria into the championship final, setting the stage for an electrifying West African showdown.
The Lone Star’s run highlighted by the Benin rout and the solid draw against the tournament hosts has reinforced the team’s reputation as one of Africa’s most resilient sides in amputee football.
“We’re thrilled… and confident they’ll make Liberia proud”
Gayeflor says the team’s unity and fighting spirit have not only lifted morale but have created a wave of confidence within the camp ahead of Wednesday, December 3, 2025 final.
“We’re thrilled with the team’s performance so far, and we’re confident they’ll make Liberia proud in the final,” she said.
She added that the players’ focus and commitment are clear signs that Liberia is ready for the challenge against their longtime West African rivals.
A Tournament Marked by Grit, Skill, and Determination
Liberia’s journey through the tournament from the gritty draw with Cameroon, to the 8–0 destruction of Benin, to the intense 0–0 showdown with Nigeria has showcased the team’s tactical growth and competitive maturity.
Analysts say Liberia’s form sends a strong signal that the nation remains a formidable force in amputee football, a sport in which the country has traditionally excelled.
All Eyes on the Final
With anticipation rising at home and across the delegation in Nigeria, Gayeflor believes the Lone Star has one final task to complete: finishing their inspiring run with a victory.
“The boys have shown heart and discipline. Now they have one more step to make the whole country proud,” she said.
The championship match against Nigeria is expected to be a high-stakes, emotional contest between two of the region’s strongest amputee football nations.
As Liberia prepares for its biggest moment in the tournament, the nation watches, hopes, and rallies behind a team that has already inspired pride with its grit, unity, and extraordinary performance on the continental stage.
