Weah Praises LFA Project and Suggests Hotel Football

Africa-Press – Liberia. Football administrator and stakeholder Christian Weah Sr. has lauded the Liberia Football Association’s (LFA) decision to construct its LFA-owned hotel, describing the move as a “landmark and forward-thinking initiative” that signals a shift toward institutional growth and financial independence.

In a statement released on December 19, 2025, Weah praised the LFA Executive Committee and President Mustapha Raji for the visionary project, which he believes will significantly reduce the Association’s dependence on external grants and intermittent sponsorships.

Strategic Financial Autonomy

According to Weah, the proposed hotel is a strategic asset for revenue generation. By establishing a reliable income stream, he argued, the LFA can better navigate the financial demands of the sport.

“Such financial autonomy strengthens governance and allows the LFA to better plan, invest, and respond to the needs of Liberian football at all levels,” Weah stated.

He further noted that the facility would serve as a centralized hub for national teams, referees, coaches, and visiting CAF and FIFA officials.

By housing these stakeholders in-house, the LFA stands to cut substantial logistical costs while enhancing the security and professional preparation of match officials and athletes.

The “Hotel Football” Brand

As part of his recommendations, Weah proposed that the facility be officially named “Hotel Football.” He argued that the name carries a global resonance that aligns with international branding standards.

“The name is global, instantly identifiable, and represents more than lodging,” Weah said.

“Hotel Football reflects culture, identity, unity, and the business of the beautiful game.”

He suggested that such branding would increase the facility’s marketability to international partners and fans, transforming the LFA into a modern, business-minded institution.

Strategic Location and Technical Infrastructure

Regarding the project’s physical placement, Weah recommended a site along the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway.

He cited the area’s proximity to the airport, high commercial visibility, and the projected appreciation of property values in the corridor as primary reasons for the location.

Beyond the hospitality aspect, Weah urged the LFA to expand the project’s scope by including a full-size artificial turf pitch alongside the planned swimming pool.

He noted that an on-site pitch would provide:

Integrated Training: Allowing national teams and visiting clubs to train where they lodge.

Developmental Space: Hosting youth and women’s football programs.

Revenue Diversification: Generating income through pitch rentals to external parties.

“This would transform the facility into a true football destination, not just a hotel,” Weah emphasized.

Concluding his statement, Weah described the project as a potential legacy for the Raji administration, blending the hospitality industry with the business of football to foster national pride.

“Congratulations to Mr. Raji and the Executive Committee for this initiative,” he said. “This could become the model for football development in Liberia.”
