Africa-Press – Liberia. A high-level three-member delegation from Liberia, led by the Deputy Minister for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Jeddi Mowbray Armah (Cllr), is in India for the maiden India–Liberia United Nations (UN) Consultations.
Other members of the Liberian delegation include Mr. Garmondeh M. Yebleh, Desk Officer for International Peace and Security, and Mr. Moibah K. Johnson, Senior Desk Officer, Bureau of Afro-Asian Affairs.
The consultations, held on December 29 in New Delhi, were led on the Indian side by Ms. Nabanita Chakrabarti, Joint Secretary in charge of the United Nations Political (UNP) Division at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The dialogue provided a platform for both countries to exchange views on key multilateral issues, including international peace and security, coordination at the United Nations, and priorities during Liberia’s tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Following the consultations, the Liberian delegation paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Sibi George, Secretary (West), and Mr. Sevala Mude Naik, Additional Secretary (Central and West Africa), at the Ministry of External Affairs.
During the meetings, India congratulated Liberia on its election to the United Nations Security Council and assured the Government of Liberia of its full support throughout Liberia’s tenure on the Council.
Discussions with the Additional Secretary (Central and West Africa) focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in priority areas including healthcare, maritime cooperation, agriculture, education, training, and capacity building. India reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Liberia through development partnerships, technical assistance, and training opportunities under its various cooperation frameworks, notably the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme.
India and Liberia share longstanding friendly relations grounded in mutual respect, South–South cooperation, shared democratic values, and a common commitment to peace and development. Over the years, cooperation between the two countries has expanded in areas such as education, capacity building, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.
The successful conclusion of the first India–Liberia UN Consultations underscores the growing depth of diplomatic engagement between the two nations and reflects a shared resolve to enhance collaboration at the multilateral level, particularly during Liberia’s historic membership on the United Nations Security Council.
