President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is expected to serve as the keynote speaker at the official launch of the nationwide “Feed the Nation” agriculture initiative, as delegates of the World Foundation International, Multipurpose Agriculture Cooperative (WFI-MAC) from all fifteen counties continue to arrive in Monrovia ahead of the landmark event scheduled for Friday, February 6, 2026 at Monrovia City Hall.
The high-profile launch is shaping up to be one of the most significant agriculture-focused gatherings since the Boakai administration assumed office, with farmers’ representatives, cooperative leaders, agribusiness actors, development partners, and members of the diplomatic and business communities converging on the capital.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday at the WFI-MAC Office on Capitol Hill, Monrovia, Lincoln Cooper, Chief Executive Officer of World Foundation International, MFI, confirmed that President Boakai’s expected keynote role, describing it as a strong signal of the government’s commitment to food security, agricultural transformation, and rural development.
“The presence of the President as keynote speaker underscores that agriculture and the Liberian farmer matter at the highest level of national leadership,” Mr. Cooper said.
“Feed the Nation is not a ceremonial project. It is a practical, nationwide intervention designed to increase production, protect farmers, attract investment, and create sustainable jobs for our young people across all fifteen counties.”
According to Mr. Cooper, WFI-MAC delegates representing farming communities from Cape Mount to Maryland have begun arriving in Monrovia to participate in the launch, following months of consultations and organizational groundwork at the county level.
He noted that the diversity of delegates reflects the national scope of the initiative and its emphasis on inclusivity. The Feed the Nation Project, WFI officials say, will prioritize large-scale agricultural production, particularly rice, while strengthening local value chains, improving farmer livelihoods, and enhancing national food security.
Following the launch, WFI-MFI plans to roll out coordinated agricultural operations in partnership with county authorities and local communities.
Also addressing the press, Dr. John T. Wulu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of WFI-MAC, described agriculture as central to Liberia’s survival and long-term economic stability. “Agriculture is the backbone of our economy and the foundation of our national survival,” Dr. Wulu said.
“When farmers are empowered, the nation is fed. When agricultural systems are strengthened, prosperity becomes possible.”
Dr. Wulu said President Boakai’s expected keynote address aligns with the administration’s policy focus on food security and domestic production, adding that the initiative complements national development priorities.
“We are not only launching a project; we are advancing a pathway to self-reliance, job creation, and economic resilience,” he said.
WFI-MAC extended an open invitation to the public, lawmakers, private sector actors, and development partners to attend the launch and engage with the details of the program.
Senators and Representatives from all counties have been invited, with organizers stressing the importance of legislative support to ensure long-term success.
