Africa-Press – Liberia. A high-level delegation from the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has concluded a daylong strategic engagement with local authorities in Maryland County, aimed at identifying and assessing military-owned properties in the area.

The team, which visited Harper, was dispatched by Liberia’s Minister of National Defense, Geraldine Janet George, following a directive from President and Commander-in-Chief of the AFL, Joseph N. Boakai.

The engagement, which began on Monday, February 23, 2026, and continued through Wednesday, February 25, 2026, is part of a broader nationwide initiative.

Speaking during the visit, Acting Coast Guard Commander LCRD Kansuah explained that the mission is part of a nationwide exercise mandated by the President for the Defense Ministry to identify all AFL-owned land and submit comprehensive plans for the rehabilitation and construction of military barracks.

According to Commander Kansuah, the initiative aligns with President Boakai’s vision to recruit approximately 600 Liberians annually into the AFL and to ensure improved accommodation and living conditions for military personnel.

The AFL delegation included Assistant Defense Minister for Coast Guard Affairs Richard B. Kamara; Assistant Defense Minister for Civil Works Kesselly K. Zinnah; Assistant Defense Minister for Public Affairs Oscar F. Mulbah; Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics Lt. Col. Kortu; Engineering Commander Lt. Col. Kokulo; and other senior officers.

Representing Maryland County were Superintendent Henry Cole, Harper City Mayor Abraham Jackson, and Land Commissioner Jonah Wreh Segbe.

Superintendent Cole expressed appreciation to Minister George for dispatching the delegation to implement the President’s directive. He noted that the military barracks in Harper are among those slated for rehabilitation and pledged the county’s full cooperation in identifying AFL-owned properties within Maryland County.
