Margibi County, Liberia, April 17, 2026 – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has responded to the ongoing expulsion proceedings involving Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah, underscoring the constitutional principle of separation of powers between the Executive and the Legislature.

The Liberian leader spoke to reporters on April 16, 2026, shortly after returning to Liberia from a successful state visit to Ethiopia. President Boakai remarked that unprecedented developments may now take place, adding that as long as life continues, events will inevitably unfold.

Boakai distanced his office from the ongoing controversy, underscoring that matters within the Legislature remain the responsibility of lawmakers.

His statement comes amid growing public attention surrounding the issue, with many awaiting further developments from the legislative body.

Rep. Kolubah is facing investigation over remarks made regarding the border dispute between Liberia and Guinea. His comments came against the backdrop of rising tensions over contested territory in Lofa County near the Sorlumba checkpoint area.

Multiple reports indicate that Rep. Kolubah allegedly stated publicly that the disputed land belongs to Guinea and suggested that Guinean authorities should “take their land.”

His comments triggered widespread backlash from lawmakers, security officials, and members of the public, who viewed the remarks as undermining Liberia’s sovereignty and weakening the country’s diplomatic position.

Following the controversy, Liberia’s House of Representatives forwarded complaints against him to its Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration for investigation. He has been accused of misconduct, gross breach of duty, and violating his oath of office, while some lawmakers have called for his possible expulsion from the Legislature.

After appearing before the Committee on April 15, 2026, Rep. Kolubah sought legal remedy at the Supreme Court of Liberia. However, House leadership is expected to appear before the Supreme Court Justice in Chambers for a conference on the matter on Monday, April 20, 2026.
