Africa-Press – Liberia. MONROVIA — Residents of Lakpazee and Airfield communities in Monrovia have vented their anger at the Police Deputy Director for Operations Marvin Sackor, accusing him of “unnecessarily switching off” their LEC breaker in order to maintain stable electricity at his Airfield residence.
Electricity has been constant in the Airfield community since March 23, but has been off in communities in Lakpazee on the reported order of Sackor. And in protest some aggrieved residents of the two communities Tuesday marched on to the office of Sackor demanding that their broker be switched on.
“Whenever the community breaker is on Sarkor’s current always low so he can give instruction to switch off the breaker in order to keep his power strong,” the residents alleged.
“Already we can’t see light and when current comes on then a government official is there depriving us (residents) of what we paying for, the president really needs to look into this matter and take action because we are humans and deserve every right to enjoy electricity like he’s enjoying,” Jackson Freeman, a resident of Lakpazee expressed.
“We went at his house that was how we knew that it was Sackor who normally gives instructions to switch off our breaker when current comes. We went there where our breaker is on and we demanded that our breaker be switched on, that’s how it was put on on Tuesday by 3:30pm,” Joshua Norman stated.
Another resident of Airfield said: “After we noticed that LEC was on in the Airfield community since Monday, but we never had current, we began to wonder what was happening and interestingly Wroto Town was on but from Sackor’s house to Lakpazee and some part of Matadi was off, so we went to Sackor’s house at the LEC supply breaker box and we realized that it was Sackor who reportedly gave instructions to switch our breaker off because he said his current can be low when our breaker is on.”
Victoria Jackson, a resident of Airfield, described Sackor’s alleged action as a “complete madness” and wants the president to intervene. “This is a complete wickedness, why should a single man seek his happiness over the rest of the community, is Sackor now the new LEC supervisor for him to be switching off breakers, this is frustrating.
Sackor’s alleged action has also been condemned by former District #9 Representative Aspirant Fubbi Henries, who described the LEC as “not useful entity”.
“If that is true, he needs to stop that with immediate effect! Sadly, Liberia expecting electricity then (LEC) is already not a useful entity and Liberians need to file a Class Action against the Entity’s willful inefficiency!”
Fubbi said the constant habit of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) for not providing electricity to residents for days requires legal action. “We are pre-paying for electricity, and it has been off for days without paying interest on our units that are pre-purchased requires legal action against LEC”!
“Also, if 102 (Melvin Sackor) of the LNP is willfully switching off breaker then he is facilitating crimes in District 9, he needs to be held equally liable for every criminal activities that are carried out during the darkness,” he said.
Sackor, however, failed to respond to allegations levied against him by the community residents. As at press time, attempts by FrontPageAfrica to contacted Police Spokesman Moses Carter proved futile.
