“We had a very fruitful discussion with the various sports leaders,” Rep. Tequah said. “It’s clear that collaboration is key if we are to build a vibrant sporting culture in Liberia. The government must work hand in hand with the federations to ensure that athletes and young people have the support they need to succeed.”
Rep. Tequah further emphasized the need to increase the national budgetary allocation for sports, noting that adequate funding is essential for upgrading infrastructure, developing talent, and ensuring that Liberian athletes can compete effectively at both regional and international levels.
“We cannot continue to talk about sports development when the resources remain limited,” he added. “Investment in sports is an investment in our youth and in the image of the country.”
Stakeholders Call for Action
Sports administrators at the gathering commended the initiative, saying it reflects a renewed sense of partnership between policymakers and the sporting community. They called for a clear national strategy that will guide sports investment, accountability, and capacity building for athletes and coaches.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment between lawmakers and sports leaders to maintain open dialogue and pursue joint efforts toward a more structured, well-funded, and inclusive sports system in Liberia.
