Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>After one year, and three months of construction work, President George Weah will today, April 15, dedicate the Invincible Sports Park in Sinkor, Monrovia.<\/p>\n

Pres. Weah on February 9, 2021, broke ground for the construction of the sports park as part of his flagship sports for development program. The project, which was supervised by Minister of State Without Portfolio Trokon Kpui and funded by NPA, NASCORP, and Liberia Maritime Authority, includes a standard FIFA football pitch, two football practice patches, and two basketball courts, tennis and a volleyball court.<\/p>\n

It also includes a track and field stretch, a mini children’s playground, and a parking space. The dedication of the project marks one of the few sports infrastructure projects undertaken by the Weah administration. It comes a few weeks after the national government commenced works at the SKD sports stadium for the installation of artificial turf and completion of the placement of bucket seats at the facility.<\/p>\n

Several football icons have been invited to grace the official dedication ceremony of the sports park. Togolese international and former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor arrived in the country on Wednesday, alongside Senegalese and former Liverpool striker El Hadji Diouf, Ghana\u2019s Asamoah Gyan Kwame Ayew. They were later joined by Nigerian football icon J.J Okocha and Zambia\u2019s Kalusha Bwalya on Friday.<\/p>\n

Other guests expected include Qatar Delegates, Samuel Eto’o, Luis Fernandes, and FIFA Delegates, Didier Drogba, Sekou Coulibaly, Alian Guamini Yousouf Fofana, Rocky Russell, and German Smith are also coming, according to presidential aide Sekou Kalasco.<\/p>\n

The construction of the Invincible Sports Park also brought a huge relief to nearby community dwellers, after the government demolished and reconstructed modern housing infrastructures for them. The sports park, when officially dedicated, will be opened to the public, affording Liberians, particularly young people, the opportunity to host recreational activities.<\/p>\n

Research shows that sports infrastructure plays a crucial role in achieving excellence in the global arena of sports. It not only helps in producing sports persons of international repute, but also encourages the young population of a country to participate in sporting activities with the objective of creating a culture of sports.<\/p>\n

Pres. Weah, during one of his tours at the newly constructed facility said the lack of infrastructural facilities has been one of the major constraints in the process of development of sports in Liberia, noting that this facility will be a major boost for young and talented Liberian kids.<\/p>\n

This project will be followed by the dedication of another sports park in the PHP Community in the not too distant future. It comprises a full outdoor gym, a children\u2019s playground, two football fields, two basketball courts, and two volleyball courts, as well as a boardwalk.<\/p>\n
