Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Liberian Council of Churches (LCC), the \u2018conscience of the nation\u2019 has elected Rev. Dr. Samuel Reeves, former Vice Presidential Candidate of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) as its new President.<\/p>\n

Rev. Reeves, once heavily criticized for abandoning the Baptist Church, which he currently pastors to become a running mate to former Central Bank Governor Mills Jones takes over from Rev. Dr. Kortu Brown who has also been regarded as too close to the current regime.<\/p>\n

The MOVEE former vice presidential candidate was elected alongside Rev. Sanjee Abioseh Stepter as second vice president. Rev. Septer is a ranking member of the now splinter political pressure group Council of Patriots or CoP.<\/p>\n

Others elected are Bishop Samuel J. Quire, Jr\u20261st Vice President and Mr. Emmanuel Howe Treasurer among others.<\/p>\n

The election of Rev. Dr. Reeves and Rev. Septer, two recently very active politicians to the LCC leadership raised the question of the church\u2019s neutrality in future political conflicts among parties ahead of the upcoming 2023 presidential and legislative elections.<\/p>\n

Rev. Dr. Reeves is regarded as a tough taking person and has vowed structural and administrative reforms at the LCC.<\/p>\n

He said under his watch the LCC won\u2019t be friend nor enemy to the government but rather partners as they look to work for the progress and development of the country.<\/p>\n

The LCC in the past has been the voice of the nation. Whenever its leaders spoke the political hierarchy of the nation listen. Those times are no more and this Rev. Reeves has vowed to return the LCC to.<\/p>\n

Rev. Reeves and others were elected at the climax of the 33rd Annual General Assembly of the LCC. He pledged to steer the affairs of the LCC with a more collaborated effort.<\/p>\n

Dr. Reeves replaces Bishop Kortu K. Brown who served from 2018 to May 28, 2022.<\/p>\n
