Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe has cautioned his compatriots not to see corruption as a way of life where those entrusted with both private and public offices must enrich themselves at the expense of the people.<\/p>\n

Cllr. Gongloe told the Liberian community including a church service, and the United Nimba Citizens\u2019 Council (UNICCO) Convention among others in Philadelphia, the United States on Saturday, May 28 that public officials must be held accountable for their actions.<\/p>\n

He added that public duty mostly at the governmental level is a place of service and not for the enrichment of oneself because you cannot be a billionaire from such service. He, therefore, called on progressive organizations to conduct lifestyle audits which is another form of fighting corruption.<\/p>\n

The Presidential hopeful also reminded his countrymen and women how the Americans and Europeans have spoken out fearlessly against the lacked political will in the fight against waste and abuse which is eating up the fabric of the Liberian society.<\/p>\n

Gongloe further stated that Liberians need not be told by outsiders (international partners) of the continued underdevelopment of their country because of corruption but they must admit that what is wrong with Liberia is Liberian themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cOutsiders cannot develop Liberia but Liberians themselves. Therefore, the fight against corruption and other vices that are keeping the country\u2019s growth and development backward rest with Liberians,\u201d he reminded.<\/p>\n

He stated though that change globally is mostly brought by an individual and not so much by a collective because someone must take the lead for the rest to follow.<\/p>\n

Gongloe cited the late jerry John Rawlings of Ghana, Martin Luther King of the United States, John Makefoli of Tanzania and Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso are among the few examples.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese leaders whether dead or alive are clear inspirational of change of today\u2019s world which any leader or head of states can follow because they are agents of good governance to large extent despite fewer shortcomings,\u201d he suggested.<\/p>\n

Gongloe also mentioned that Liberia has good laws but the execution has been the problem. He said, he has been tried and tested to the extent that his name has never been mentioned in any audit or shady deals in his private and public service.<\/p>\n

He continued that his Liberian People\u2019s Party (LPP\u2019s) symbol (the broom) is his strength in sweeping from ministries, agencies, commissions or corporations of government when he becomes Liberia\u2019s President.<\/p>\n

On tribalism and nepotism, the former President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) says he is far from that to the extent that his relationship is beyond border.<\/p>\n

Gongloe addressed other wide range of national issues that are affecting the country including security, health, agriculture, infrastructure development, unemployment, economy, and foreign policy, among others mentioning that those were already part of the party\u2019s platform and not individual things.<\/p>\n

The former minister of Labor is among three (3) other strong contenders seeking their Liberian People\u2019s Party (LPP) nomination for the flagship during the convention scheduled for the later part of this year.<\/p>\n

The others are Henry Boima Fahnbulleh, Jr. and George Gonpu who are diaspora residents to be specific in the United States and the United Kingdom but have expressed their desire to vie for Liberia\u2019s Presidency through their political party (LPP).<\/p>\n
