Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>We are so thrilled that the lease of these motorcycles is possible with USAID funding from the people of America to make possible through the Elections and Democracy Activity for the great people of UMOVEMENT to continue the process of civic education to engage the youths across the counties of Liberia and beyond \u2013 so delighted of our partnership,\u201d said Stephanie Lynn, Chief of Party, Democracy International (DI).<\/p>\n

For his part, Sir Urias W. Brooks, Jr, Founder\/CEO UMOVEMENT assures DI that the motorcycles will be used for effective monitoring and coordination of project activities within the counties \u2013 regular school monitoring, PTAs engagements meeting, teacher training, etc.<\/p>\n

This brings to two the number of handovers supports within a year for UMOVEMENT mobility under the EDA program from USAID through Democracy International. The first was a 2014 Nissan Patrol SUV. USAID was represented by its Election and Political Processes Team Lead Mary Zell.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, DI is partnering with UMOVEMENT on the Liberia Elections and Democracy Activity (EDA) to ensure a focus on national ownership and sustainability in Liberia. DI aims to draw on UMOVEMENT\u2019s experience as a trusted MOE partner dedicated to expanding inclusive educational opportunities for Liberians as a path to breaking the cycle of poverty, with an extensive background in implementing civic education to promote democratic development.<\/p>\n

Prominently, UMOVEMENT brings its integrated relationships with the MOE and with Liberian schools, teachers, teacher training institutes, and students as well as the necessary expertise to take the civic education curriculum to the finish line.<\/p>\n

The Election and Democracy Activity is a multiyear funded USAID project supporting the Ministry of Education to reintroduce civic education from grades 1-6 in 6 counties, targeting 60,000 students under objective 2 (Civic Knowledge and Sense of Civic Duty Improved). The EDA program will help the MOE not only realize its goals to rollout the curriculum nationally but also leverage learning and evaluation opportunities to refine the implementation and teaching materials to maximize impact and cost-effectiveness.<\/p>\n

Sir Brooks lamented that his institution\u2019s successes are deeply rooted in the capacity-building support (financial management, program management, Advocacy Planning, human resources, etc.) being received under the funded European Union, Irish Aid project \u2013 Supporting Effective Advocacy in Liberia (SEAL) Project, managed by Mercy Corps.<\/p>\n
