Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>As the race day draws closer, ArcelorMittal has donated US$25,000 to the Liberia Marathon.<\/p>\n

Presenting the cheque on behalf of ArcelorMittal, Marcus Wleh, Head of Government and Community Relations, thanked the Liberia Marathon for accepting ArcelorMittal as Silver Sponsor for the 2022 race on August 21.<\/p>\n

Wleh said ArcelorMittal is a proud sponsor of sports activities in Liberia as an important driver for development.<\/p>\n

He thanked the team for bringing the event this far and pointed out the potential of the country\u2019s largest road running event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that in due course the Race will be staged in Nimba, Bong, and Bassa.<\/p>\n

I am happy that the Liberia Marathon is accepting ArcelorMittal as a silver sponsor for this year’s race, and next year, we can maybe even contribute more,\u201d Wleh added.<\/p>\n

ArcelorMittal is the world\u2019s leading steel and mining company with a presence in more than 60 countries.<\/p>\n

Being involved in previous Liberia Marathon editions, the company has been a strong partner in promoting road-racing, fitness, health, and transformation through sports in Liberia.<\/p>\n

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Liberia Marathon Trust, a Liberian non-profit organization, Board Chair Charles D.<\/p>\n

Cooper thanked ArcelorMittal Liberia for the great partnership over the years and in particular for this year\u2019s contribution which will help tremendously to hosting of the Liberia Marathon 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Liberia Marathon is the only premium road race since 2011.<\/p>\n

We have had thousands of runners participating from 30 other countries including Kenya, Somalia, the United States, and Europe that traveled to Liberia to participate,\u201d Cooper said.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

From its very beginning, the Liberia Marathon has been an inclusive and affordable event.<\/p>\n

All Liberians shall have the chance to participate and compete in a safe race at international standards, no matter their income, age, or gender.<\/p>\n

Athletes in wheelchairs and on crutches have the same opportunity to compete as Liberia\u2019s national running team, and those thousands of amateur and fun runners from all spheres of Liberian life.<\/p>\n

They all line up individually but yet together tackle the 10k, 21.1k, or even full marathon (42.2k) distance and experience the joy of running.<\/p>\n

Registration fees are kept on a very low level and include not only the participation in the race but also a race t-shirt for every registrant and a finisher medal for every runner making it over the finish line at SKD Sports Complex.<\/p>\n

The organizers, who are all committing their time voluntarily, are grateful for partnerships such as the one with ArcelorMittal Liberia and others.<\/p>\n

\u201cStaging a race of such a high standard is only possible with sufficient external support through sponsors and partners.<\/p>\n

It is really like a great orchestra where everyone contributes its part to the overall success.\u201d<\/p>\n
