Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Justice has condemned a fake news video circulating social media that attempts to expose a \u2018plot\u2019 by Pres. Weah to rig the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Justice has described the video as \u201cmalicious\u201d and warned the public and political opponents that no amount of desperation should lead them into jeopardizing the country\u2019s security.<\/p>\n

According to Justice Minister Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, the video tends to cast aspersions on the country\u2019s electoral system.<\/p>\n

He said Liberia\u2019s electoral system has over the years gained international acclamation for conducting transparent elections.<\/p>\n

He warned that engaging in false news with a clear intent to incite and create agitation in the general population is against the law; and therefore anyone found fermenting or sponsoring activities intended to create chaos could face the full weight of the law.<\/p>\n

No amount of desperation should lead us to toy with our security. We are calling on all and sundry, the International Community, the Press, Civil Society, the Liberia Council of Churches, the Inter-religious Council, political parties and the general populace to rise up, in unison, and condemn the evil contained in this fake news video. Government is committed to free, transparent and democratic elections. The fact that no news outlet is named in the video speaks volumes.<\/b><\/p>\n

This, the Minister said, is very wrong, and could potentially damage the country\u2019s stability and international reputation.<\/p>\n

The Justice Minister has therefore engaged Liberia\u2019s international partners, including the heads of the Embassies of the U.S. and European Union, calling on them to vehemently condemn the dangerous and inciteful ploy which seeks to undermine Liberia\u2019s hard-earned peace.<\/p>\n

He said the onus is upon the International community to debunk this creeping menace as the particular video in question directly alleges that it was they [the international Community] who uncovered a plot.<\/p>\n

The government wants to make it absolutely clear that it will leave no stone unturned in its determination to protect the country\u2019s peace and security.<\/p>\n
