The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has recommended to the ECOWAS Commission through its human security and civil society division to fast-track the passage of every legal framework on human security and protection.<\/p>\n

The Government, through Deputy Finance Minister for Budget, Ms. Tanneh Brunson, made the recommendation at the start of a three-day In-country high-level advocacy, coordination and capacity building of multi-stakeholders for the implementation of ECOWAS policies.<\/p>\n

The forum, under the auspices of the ECOWAS Commission, was held at a local hotel in Monrovia.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah, Deputy Minister Brunson said the Government of Liberia is pleased that ECOWAS, through its human security and civil society division is actively engaging Member States with the goal of institutionalizing framework and policies solely to protect and advance the human security of its peoples.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we create opportunities and improve the livelihoods of the vulnerable and less-fortunate in our midst, we advance the cause of humanity, achieve development, and strengthen peace and stability in our Member States and the sub-region at large\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

She said leaders that are entrusted with the responsibility of making the most critical decision to advance these causes will have to do so within the confines of the most judicious hindsight.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnhance coordination across all sectors and at every level\u201d, she stressed and noted that the Government of Liberia\u2019s Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity Development (PAPD) elaborates a unique multi-sectoral framework for development coordination that, if fully enlisted, will enhance knowledge-sharing and information dissemination.<\/p>\n

According to her, government remains fully committed to such cause, as demonstrated by its recent formulation of a multi-sectoral program to address needs of at-risk youth in Liberia.<\/p>\n

She further said at the end of implementation, the program will provide skills training, social integration, and employment opportunities, empowering women and girls as well as investing in social protection for at-risk youths across Liberia.<\/p>\n

She added that to end vulnerability, including reduction of gender and social inequality, the Government of Liberia had passed into law, ratified, and acceded to thirty (30) domestic and international conventions.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Special Representative of ECOWAS to Liberia, Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah said human security as a concept connotes the rights of people to live in freedom and dignity with freedom from fear and want, equal opportunity to enjoy their rights and develop their human potential.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Nkrumah noted that the ECOWAS Integrated Protection and Human Security Integrated approach for intervention towards building resilient system has targeted eight (8) countries, including Liberia to undertake high-level advocacy and capacity-building intervention in several areas, including SGBV, social protection and drug prevention.<\/p>\n

She said The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Nigeria have benefited from these same interventions and capacity-building workshops, organized and implemented by ECOWAS.<\/p>\n

The three days capacity building workshop that brought together officials of government from line ministries and agencies, partners, representatives from the legislature, and civil society organizations, among others ended on Friday, September 16. <\/b><\/p>\n
