Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Dr. Dougbeh Christopher Nyan, a Liberian medical doctor, biomedical research scientist, inventor and social activist, has been awarded the Emma Shannon Walser Medal for Rule of Law, Good Governance and patriotism in national development.<\/p>\n

Nyan, who holds a degree in Human-Medicine from the Charit\u00e9 \u2013 Universit\u00e4tsmedizin Berlin of the Humboldt-University of Berlin, Germany, was given the prestigious national award on October 5, by the Angie Brooks International Center for Women\u2019s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security (ABIC).<\/p>\n

Walser, daughter of a former Liberian Chief Justice and first Judge of Liberia\u2019s First Judicial Circuit Court, is recorded in the nation\u2019s history as one of the best judges ever. As historicized by River Gee County Senator Commany B. Wesseh, the late Walser is locked down in the good history of Liberia for her progressive actions.<\/p>\n

According to Wesseh, her rule in many cases gave her the fame and recognition of being a progressive judge in Liberia.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was part of many progressive actions. She was a lawyer who stood her grounds. So this award is equivalent to our own Nobel Prize for judges in this country,\u201d added the River Gee lawmaker.<\/p>\n

Cllr. Yvette Chesson-Wureh, Establishment Coordinator of ABIC, said Dr. Nyan was given the award for his open and fair mindedness towards the nation’s growth and development.<\/p>\n

According to her, Dr. Nyan is a person who believes in the laws of Liberia and always wants for Liberia to forge ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are giving this award to a person who is a patriot, a person who has love and wants the best for Liberia. He is a Liberian who understands patriotism. He suffers for the things that are right and those things that are geared to aim us forward. He is an infectious disease technician,\u201d explained Chesson-Wureh.<\/p>\n

Receiving the award, Nyan thanked the organizers for the recognition given him and vowed to do more for society. Nyan, who is also a social activist, commented that \u201cI have dedicated myself to the advocacy for youth, women\u2019s causes, environmental causes and advocacy for science medicine and innovation; I appreciate this award and identify with all of you young activists for your dedication and courage in your advocacy for positive change and transformation in our societies.\u201d<\/p>\n

In advocating for democracy and good governance in Africa, Nyan stressed the \u201cneed to bridge the generational gap as we engage the politics of our respective African countries and continent to move the continent on the path of progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of Shufflex Biomed, Nyan, is the inventor of the rapid multiplex diagnostic test for infectious diseases (the Nyan-Test). The Nyan-Test can detect about 3-7 infections and simultaneously identify them in less than an hour. He was awarded a US patent for his invention and recognized last year by the 2020 German-Berlin Science Week.<\/p>\n

Nyan has received other awards and recognitions including the 2017 African Innovation Award Special Prize for Social Impact and the Humane Order for African Redemption in 2016 when he served as National Orator of Liberia’s 169 Independence Commemoration.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank you for selecting me for this award. It’s honorable to win an award named after Judge Walser who always did things in the interest of the country. I have walked in the footpaths of great people,\u201d he lauded.<\/p>\n

Nyan encouraged young Liberians to be dedicated and committed to their nation\u2019s prosperous future.<\/p>\n
