Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>TRH Trading Corporation, the largest importer of frozen foods in Liberia, has once again been hailed for alerting authorities in Liberia to yet another attempt by drug smugglers to infiltrate narcotics in the country.<\/p>\n

The seizure of the drugs was a coordinated effort of the LDEA, the Liberia Maritime Authority, the Liberia Seaport Police, and the Port Facility Security Office.<\/p>\n

FrontPageAfrica gathered that TRH had raised alarm about a container marked MNBU4204747 with products manufactured by BRF, asking for a set up of an internal investigation procedure to verify if the Container has been compromised at any stage during its journey to the port of destination at Monrovia.<\/p>\n

Speaking Monday, representatives of the country\u2019s joint security agencies said the drugs (cocaine), arrested at the Freeport of Monrovia Monday, were stored in 197 packs of drugs.<\/p>\n

No suspect has been arrested.<\/p>\n

Hailing TRH Trading Corporation for the tip-off leading to the discovery of the drugs, Jerry Diah, Senior Collector at the Freeport of Monrovia, said: \u201cThe seizure of these drugs (cocaine) is the result of coordinated efforts, especially a tip-off we (security agencies) had gotten from TRH. The company had raised suspicion about a container that had berthed at the Freeport and wanted the police to search it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to be grateful to THR through the Liberia Seaport Police Director Logan Davies, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) for the coordinated efforts applied.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also speaking, Lorenzo Pelham, the Deputy Director General for Operations of the LDEA, described the seizure of the drugs as \u201canother historical blow\u201d to the drug cartels and a strong warning that they will all go down if they fail to realize that the game has changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe suspected container was thoroughly searched by a combined team of LSP, the LDEA and a team from TRH Company. Our efforts of the search team was rewarded when 11 packs of cocaine was found,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pelham said tests conducted on the contents of the packs by the search team confirmed the substance to be cocaine wrapped in 11 packs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was gratifying that the success of the operation was as a result of the coordination between relevant agencies of government and our partner, TRH.<\/p>\n

Last year, Liberian authorities acting on a tip-off from U.S. security intelligence arrested two foreigners who attempted to smuggle US$100 million of cocaine seized.<\/p>\n

Authorities said one of the suspects, a citizen of Guinea-Bissau, was arrested in Monrovia. The second suspect, a Lebanese national, was nabbed while attempting to flee the country.<\/p>\n
