Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretariat of the Mano River Union (MRU) has convened a three-day meeting in Liberia to discuss Guinea returning to constitutional order and to review other key operation documents of the Secretariat. The MRU is a professional inter-governmental organization, comprising of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Ivory Coast as member states.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Monrovia, the Secretary-General of the MRU, Amb. Medina Wesseh said over the next three days, the Secretariat will examine specific issues of regional interest and emerging issues in the sub region.<\/p>\n

She said the meeting in Liberia is the MRU 13th Extraordinary Session of the Technical Commission on Administration and Finance (TCAF) which is one of the secretariat\u2019s foundations to assess and review its financing activities.<\/p>\n

The objectives of the meeting which is clearly laid out in the draft documents, Amb. Wesseh noted, were to review the key operation documents and reports of the MRU Secretariat, follow up on the recommendations of the last session of TCAF held in Freetown and make recommendations for the consideration of the Ministerial Council.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all aware and remain seized of the period between the last sessions to date about some of the political developments within our Member State of Guinea. As we are equally aware, Guinea remains the current chair of the MRU until the mantle of authority is transferred,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Guinea, once again returned to military rule following the overthrow of President Alpha Conde and his government by the elite presidential guard headed by Col. Mamady Doumbouya. Despite widespread condemnations from regional and international bodies including the MRU, the army has solidified its grip on power by establishing a military junta \u2013 the National Committee of Reconciliation and Development (NCRD)<\/p>\n

At the meeting in Monrovia, the MRU Secretary-General said the Secretariat have engaged and will continue to engage all major international and other sub regional stakeholders to ensure Guinea returns to constitutional order within the shortest possible time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people of Guinea and the sub region need predictable and stable governance processes to ensure peace and stability in order to carry on with the socio-economic development process,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Also speaking, the head of the Guinean delegation, Mr. Alpha Ousmane Camara lauded the MRU and reassured Guinea\u2019s support to the regional body. \u201cToday, I am here on behalf of the people of Guinea to extend thanks to MRU for the pleasant integration space as MRU remains one of the priorities of the newest authority,\u201d said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are here to inform you that we are in a certain change but please remain persuaded that the actual context is not unfavorable to the inclusion and very soon Guinea will become a civil government.\u201d<\/p>\n
