Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the arrival of a consignment of Japanese-donated rice weighing 1,500 metric tons in the country.<\/p>\n

Donated by the Japanese Counterpart Value Fund (JCVF) Secretariat, the Ministry said in a release that the rice will be monetized under the Japanese Grant Commodity Program to support the government of Liberia\u2019s social and economic development projects.<\/p>\n

The consignment of rice is expected to arrive in the country today at the Free Port of Monrovia.<\/p>\n

It can be recalled that on October 18, 2021, the Government of Liberia and the Government of Japan signed an exchange of notes for 250,000 Japanese yen for the provision of rice named and titled “KR Food Aid 2021.”<\/p>\n

The release further stated that the expected consignment of rice will be sold at the Fouta Corporation in Vai Town, with the support of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA), at wholesale and retail prices of US$13.75 and US$14.50, respectively.<\/p>\n

According to the release, the Japanese-donated rice is 5 kilos more than the regular 25kg presently on the Liberian market.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the general public is hereby advised to report anyone selling the Japanese donated rice above its stipulated prices to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry\u2019s Inspectorate Division or the Japanese Counterpart Value Fund Secretariat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for quick intervention to eschew further profiteering and cheating.<\/p>\n
