Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Liberia\u2019s Justice Minister Cllr. Frank Musa Dean has described the Indian Business Chamber as a reliable partner and a reliable friend after the group made good its promises to the Liberian prison system here by donating food and other needed materials.<\/p>\n

During the donation exercise Friday, 17 February 2023 Minister Dean said he was very pleased to receive a visit from members of the Indian Business Chamber of Liberia, and he was pleased by the gesture.<\/p>\n

The Indian Business Chamber, led by its founding chair Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, donated 200 bags of rice, 50 bags of beans, 15 Jerry Cans of Red Palm Oil, 10 bags of salt, 10 cartoons of Vita cubes, and one bucket of chlorine.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased by this gesture, and we ask others \u2013 business friends of ours \u2013 to follow suit,\u201d the Justice Minister said, adding that the visit was not the Indian Business Chamber\u2019s first.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have come often to identify with us. Today we receive rice, beans, palm oil, salt, cubes, chlorine, and other needed materials for the Monrovia Central Prison,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, we control 16 prisons around the country, so some of these items will be distributed to some of them, including the Margibi Prison,\u201d said Minister Dean.<\/p>\n

He said there are people detained at the Monrovia Central Prison, noting that though they went into conflict with the law, they are citizens of Liberia.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd of course, while incarcerated, [they] are entitled to certain basic facilities, including feeding. So we encourage all of our friends to copy the example of the Indian Business Chamber to donate, to contribute, to give to the less fortunate and our prisons around the country,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Minister Dean said Mr. Jeety\u2019s contributions and donations have been very helpful, and his conduct has been exemplary.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we receive these items today, and we will make sure that the prisoners are fed, and fed properly,\u201d said Minister Dean.<\/p>\n

Donating earlier on behalf of the Indian Business Chamber, Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva (Mr. Jeety) said the donation was in fulfillment of a promise he made during his previous visit to the prison facility.<\/p>\n

Mr. Jeety said once you are outside and free, you can search for food, but it\u2019s difficult for those who are held in detention.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we should support, we should buttress the effort of the government in whatever little way we can do so these inmates can have a nourished meal,\u201d said Mr. Jeety.<\/p>\n

Mr. Jeety thanked members of the Indian Business Chamber who accompanied him at the Monrovia Central Prison for the donation.<\/p>\n

He urged the authorities to distribute some of the donated materials to other prison facilities, including the Kakata Central Prison in Margibi.<\/p>\n
