Doe Boulevard road witnessed the gathering of many including old, middle-aged and youth along the roadside holding placards to raise awareness for a tragic motor accident that claimed the life of a youth on the day of the CDC \u201cone million\u201d march.<\/p>\n

They wore t-shirts inscription: \u2018Forever in our hearts\u2019 and a photo of the deceased Clement Corlon on the front.<\/p>\n

Those in the crowd held various placards, with words such as: \u201cBike riders, there is no spare life, so ride with care\u201d, \u201cYour bike is your office so value the lives of your customers\u201d, \u201cBike riders, speeding kills\u201d<\/p>\n

The crowd had come to the exact spot where the victim passed, to observe a wake keeping of lighting candles in memorializing his passing.<\/p>\n

Corlon, who died in a tragic motor accident on February 4th, 2023, when he fell off a bike and a yellow school bus, known in Liberia as \u2018killer Being\u2019, rolled over him and killed him instantly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I saw the body of a young man like myself, lying in the pool of his blood, I was scared to ride my own bike for four days, because whenever I saw his blood on the car road, I was traumatized from that incident. So I would like to say to my fellow bike riders, this bike that we are riding, is not balanced and once we prioritize ourselves, we will also prioritize the passenger behind you. We have to ride for our safety and that of the safety of those who ride with us,\u201d said Ismael Wesseh, a bike rider.<\/p>\n

He furthered explained from eye witnesses\u2019 statement that the accident occurred when a yellow school bus jammed a \u201ckehkeh\u201d, that slammed into the bike carrying the deceased and he fell off the bike and the bus on the same lane, rolled over him and he died instantly.<\/p>\n

Carmella Smallwood, sister of the deceased, said her brother had stayed home all day during the CDC march, until his friend with a bike went for him to go out, but on their way to the SKD Boulevard, the tragedy struck.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was told he fell off the bike and a yellow school bus rolled over him and he died on the spot. Therefore, we have gathered here at the exact spot where he died, to commemorate him and create a form of awareness for the many accidents happening around the country involving motorbikes. A lot of families have lost their lives, so we have decided that as we are grieving, to use this opportunity to talk to our motorbike riders, and vehicle drivers to be patient with each other because those on the bikes are our loved ones and families, and their lives are being lost often. Many of us are going through the stress of transportation being a hassle for all of us, but we should consider patience and be our brother\u2019s keeper,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Corlon, 34, is among hundreds of people who have died as a result of motor accidents which include: vehicles, bikes (pehnpehn), and Tricycles, (Kehkeh).<\/p>\n

According to The Public Safety Division of the Liberia National Police (LNP) data for last year showed that about 139 persons died as a result of road accidents involving motorists, occupants, and pedestrians across the country.<\/p>\n

Among those who died were 66 operators, 36 occupants, and 37 pedestrians. They were 115 males and 24 females.<\/p>\n

The report further indicates that deaths occurred from January 1 to September 30, 2022 show that the 1,380 accident cases reported across the country are as follows: car to motorcycle killed (399), motorcycle to motorcycle (169), Motorcycle to pedestrians (116), and tricycle to motorcycle (39).<\/p>\n

Alexander D. Johnson, also known as \u201cRussian Palo\u201d, of the Russian gym, said the deceased was one of their strong members participating in their strongman competition, representing Bong County.<\/p>\n

\u201cClement was a cool going guy who was loved by many and it was unfortunate that even the day Clement died, he stopped by the Gym and he was hugging everybody and taking photo with us, so it was shocking to know that on the same evening he was gone. It was like Clement was biding us goodbye when he came by the gym to hug, greet and take pictures with us, because he had not trained with us for a while due to his previous accident which left him wounded,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Juwoh Colon, uncle of the deceased, said the death of his nephew has left a big gap in their hearts. \u201cMy niece called to inform me on the day of the accident that someone had called her to say her phone number was in the deceased\u2019s phone so they were calling to inform her that the person who had the phone was involved in an accident and was dead, so she was called to identify the body. This is how we got to know and when I came, he was dead in the pool of his blood. I was told the bike carrying him fell on the left side of the road, and when was trying to save himself and jumped on the right side, the \u201ckiller being\u201d bus ran over him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

During the lighting of the candles, another sister of the deceased, Ms. Noelle Esi Duche, read a press statement as a tool for creating awareness for bike riders plying the streets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe the family members so grieved and want to draw light and awareness to the many preventable motor accidents. We feel an obligation to speak up on this issue in order to prevent other families from experiencing what we now face. We would like to appeal to our drivers to please have a little more patience with our brothers who ride motorbikes. We know that most times they do not observe the traffic rules, but please be patient, because our family members are passengers on your bikes and are mostly the victims who suffer the casualties. Please be patient and observe traffic rules by saying, \u201cI am the only good driver on this road, so I must do anything to prevent an accident as much as I can.\u201d To our brothers who are riding the bikes, it is really hurtful losing loved ones to such terrible accidents. Please do not drink and drive and learn to observe all traffic rules and help prevent most of these accidents,\u201d she read<\/p>\n

At the funeral held on Saturday at the Abraham Roberts Funeral home, Prophetess Rev. Maime Swen, adopted mother of the deceased, preached the funeral discourse, taken from Psalm 90: 4-9 and Hebrew 9: 24-28 on the theme: \u201cWhat is your story and how will it be written.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said everyone\u2019s story begins from the day of his birth on earth and every story when written, is given to a publisher and it is the publisher who determines the need to publish.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we come to earth, there are two publishers anxiously waiting to take charge of your script. The publisher is waiting to receive you work is God and the other who is waiting to make sure that you do not enjoy the benefit of afterlife, is Satan. Many time we think we own our lives and do just anything and there will be no consequences but your story will always be written by you who own your life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

At the funeral, many people paid tributes including Montserrado lawmaker Hon. Lawrence Morris of District #1, who was an employer of the deceased.<\/p>\n

\u201cI donot know where to start; Clement was like a son to me whom I trusted so much. He had a key to my room, because he was a very honest young man that I trusted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
