Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Labor, Cllr. Charles Gibson, has commended the outgoing International Organization for Migration (IOM) Country Representative to Liberia, Mohammed Diallo, for his pivotal role in tackling the issue of trafficking in persons in Liberia.<\/p>\n

Minister Gibson made the statement at the farewell program on Friday, February 17, which brought Diallo\u2019s three-year tenure in Liberia to an end. Minister Gibson said that over the last two years, Diallo had ensured that some Liberian girls who were trafficked to Oman returned home successfully.<\/p>\n

He indicated that the outgoing IOM-Liberia Country Representative had influenced government interest in the area of human trafficking, which resulted in significant funds being allotted by the government in the proposed budget before the Legislature to combat human trafficking.<\/p>\n

Minister Gibson said, \u201cThis gentleman before us has touched the lives of hundreds of Liberians in distress. You have touched the hearts of many and have helped to intensify government policy direction toward ensuring that our girls, men, women, and children who are victims of human trafficking and child abuse are covered, protected, and given the opportunity to resettle and reintegrate.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cBecause outside those determinations, society will disintegrate. When people are victimized, they must be rehabilitated, reintegrated, and resettled. That is why, under the leadership of Mr. Diallo, this country has achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n

Responding to the farewell message, Diallo expressed his delight in being an immense part of the collaboration between IOM and the Ministry of Labor in combating human trafficking. He encouraged young people to focus, build capacity, and work hard in supporting their leaders.<\/p>\n

According to him, he has met his successor and has been encouraged to pay attention to the Ministry of Labor. \u201cMoving away is not the solution. It is harder than where you are going than staying where you are and developing your capacity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Adding, \u201cI have already met my successor in Guinea. We met last week, and I gave him my handover note. I told him to pay attention to the Ministry of Labor, to the task force, and to support our girls in Oman, the 500 girls in Oman to be back safely in Liberia.\u201d<\/p>\n
