Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Cllr. Arthur Johnson, who represents the legal interests of Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee, has accused Henry Costa and others of threatening his client\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

He claimed that the threats by Costa on social media has a security implication and would undermine the peace and stability of this country.<\/p>\n

“We want to bring to your attention that these actions of our social media commentators, who are both in and out of Liberia, undermine national security. And if these things are not addressed, he observed that there will be serious problems in the country,” he said.<\/p>\n

Johnson accuses Costa and others of describing his client as the most dangerous person in Liberia and claims that Costa urged opposition parties to find a way to stop Koijee \u201cas he is capable of ordering the murder of more innocent people and using fear and intimidation to weaken them.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cWe are taking the threats very seriously and because of that we have decided to write a formal communication to the Minister of Justice informing him to take seizure of the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

The so-called threats against Koijee came after the former chairman of the erstwhile Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Cllr. Jerome Verdier, accused the mayor of having hired Varlee Tarlleh, an ex-rebel general who works as a security guard for the Monrovia City Police Department, to assassinate the former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, on February 22. The attack resulted in the death of the justice\u2019s niece.<\/p>\n

The Mayor has however denied any involvement in the failed assassination attempt on the life of former Chief Justice, saying \u201che is innocent and a victim of propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n

Verdier has not provided any evidence to support his claims. It comes as Koijee has been constantly accused of human rights violations in the past, even though there has been no evidence yet to link him to the crime.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Johnson noted that it is sad that people are calling for the killing of the mayor on an allegation that is unfounded.<\/p>\n

\u201cFight your politics on the issues, not the personality, and I will say no. Go to the issues and want to win your campaign based on the issues, but this girl’s death is a sorrowful death,\u201d Johnson argued.<\/p>\n

Koijee\u2019s lawyer also revealed a post made by former Assistant Minister for Post and Telecommunications, Thierry Genesis in which he said \u201cif nobody kills Koijee now, he will keep killing innocent people while CDC police cover his crime\u201d.<\/p>\n

He termed those statements as irresponsible propaganda that threaten the peace and stability of the country, adding that Liberians are not willing to return to the dark days of the civil war.<\/p>\n

Johnson indicated that considering the role played by Verdier which permits him to have accurate records of those disarmed, people believe whatever he says in public.<\/p>\n

\u201cCosta, Verdier, Genesis and others\u2019 allegations or comments should be investigated by the international community and national government, and I frown on the unregulated social media system in Liberia,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n
