Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Liberia\u2019s Community Health Workers have received praise for their crucial role played in the country\u2019s health sector at a major health symposium in Monrovia.<\/p>\n

Liberia is hosting participants from forty -six African countries at the 3rd International Community Health Worker (CHW) Symposium in Monrovia.<\/p>\n

At the symposium, Liberian health workers were described as heroic professionals in the health sector. They have been hailed for being on the frontline to ensure that Liberia has a swift, better, and quality health Sector.<\/p>\n

In a virtual speech, Liberian President George Manneh Weah urged health workers to do more in their profession.<\/p>\n

Mr. Weah underscored the importance of the medical profession and reaffirmed his government\u2019s commitments to improving and expanding access to quality healthcare delivery across the country.<\/p>\n

President Weah acknowledged the challenges facing the health sector of the country, particularly in rural areas in accessing basic health needs.<\/p>\n

However, he said his administration has made tremendous progress over the years in disease prevention and minimizing mortality.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you may know, in the last few years, we have managed to increase our coverage through the training and recruitment of health workers, as well as ensuring the accessibility of health care services,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr. Weah acknowledged the many shocks the Liberian health sector has experienced over the years but also indicated that the sector has remained resilient.<\/p>\n

He, therefore, encouraged health workers to ensure that the country continues with such momentum.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere still remains a lot of challenges that require collective action to overcome,\u201d President Weah said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is, therefore, my expectation that this 3rd International Community Health Worker symposium will ponder over how all stakeholders can work together in achieving success.\u201d<\/p>\n

The symposium, which kicked off on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, seeks to gather and discuss plans to expand healthcare services to meet the needs of the vulnerable population.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah paid tributes to the community health workers for their crucial role played in helping the Government of Liberia (GOL) achieve Universal Health Coverage.<\/p>\n
