Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Liberian Women Forum (LWF) is encouraging females of voting age to turn out in their numbers to register and vote in the pending October 2023 presidential and legislative elections.<\/p>\n

LWF is an organization responsible to seek the welfare of all women here.<\/p>\n

In a statement quoting its president, Madam Kadi Porte, the LWF calls for all women in Liberia of voting age to register and vote this October. She described the process as an opportunity for women to stand up tall and exercise their constitutional rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to remind all of our women and our girls of voting age to make use of the process and turn out in big numbers to decide the next group of leaders,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

Madam Porte however called on the public and the staff of the National Elections Commission to make accommodations for pregnant women, physically-challenged women, and elderly women during the voter registration and the elections processes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are pregnant and elderly women in every community in Liberia and we are calling on the NEC and the general public to prioritize those women that need help during this process,\u201d she pleaded.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven sick women and mothers of young babies also need to be assisted during the entire electoral process.\u201d<\/p>\n

The LWF president has also expressed disappointment in politicians who are always involved in electoral violence to push their aims. She urged the women of Liberia not to encourage violence in their various communities.<\/p>\n

Madam Porte frowned on all forms of electoral violence and called on women to join the LWF in preventing violence in the coming elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe as women in Liberia need to keep a close eye on our young children. We shouldn\u2019t allow politicians to use our kids to cause any problem during this election period in Liberia,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Additionally, she encouraged women to increase their participation in the political arena in the country.<\/p>\n

According to her, women\u2019s participation in politics can help break cultural and societal barriers which in turn will reduce violence and discrimination against women.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir participation can also help to reduce illiteracy among women,\u201d she averred .<\/b><\/p>\n
