Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Program Coordinator of Korjahyee Community Renewal Development Initiative (KCRDI) in electoral district#3, Sinoe County, southeast Liberia has alarmed that people of the district are fetching drinking water from creeks, which pose serious health hazards to the population.<\/p>\n

Mr. Sennay Carlor, III, said since 1990 when three hand pumps in the community were destroyed, residents continue to drink from creeks without any purification of the water.<\/p>\n

He made the disclosure recently after members of the KCRDI paid a working visit to Korjahyee recently to gather firsthand, the standard of living there.<\/p>\n

According to him, the team which was comprised of youth from the community currently based in Monrovia has planned to give back to their people through developmental initiatives to improve their living conditions.<\/p>\n

He indicated that during the visit, they initiated clean-up campaign with the locals to give the community a facelift.<\/p>\n

Coordinator Carlor, III, also revealed that the only public school in the community has been without teachers over the years, but the organization and community dwellers are contributing their little money to maintain teachers in the classroom<\/p>\n

He said KCRDI prioritizes education for the youth and agriculture programs as well as prevailing on citizens to remain law-abiding.<\/p>\n

Members of the organization, he continued, have promised to visit Korjahyee annually to help promote development initiatives there and in neighboring communities in the district.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the district and county stakeholders are aware of citizens drinking from creek, that has led to suffering waterborne diseases but they have made no intervention.<\/p>\n

Besides, he said KCRDI provided 14 solar panel lights for the community and has embarked on erection of community identification signboards, honoring volunteer teachers and distributing instructional materials to the school, among other interventions. <\/b><\/p>\n
