Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Participants at a just-ended training of trainers (TOT) workshop organized by the Center for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding (CECPAP) in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, have called on Liberians to adopt non-violent approach in addressing the issues of voter trucking and electoral violence in Liberia.<\/p>\n

The participants\u2019 call comes against the backdrop of recent reports of violence emanating from voter trucking in Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbapolu counties respectively.<\/p>\n

They vehemently denounced the act of voter trucking and urged their fellow compatriots to allow law enforcement officers to handle the issue of voter trucking whenever it arises in the communities, saying \u201cIf you see voter trucking taking place in your community, report it to the security apparatus.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to a release issued by CECPAP, the participants in their recommendation, stressed the need for the Center to engage in massive awareness and sensitization on anti-voter trucking across Liberia\u2019s 15 political sub-divisions.<\/p>\n

They, however, pledged their full support to work alongside CECPAP to ensure voter trucking and electoral violence does not occur in the upcoming general and presidential elections slated for October this year.<\/p>\n

They also called for teamwork between the police and community dwellers to identify strange people entering the community to do voter registration.<\/p>\n

Cluster Three TOT workshop brought together participants from River Gee, Maryland and Grand Gedeh Counties. The Zwedru ToT workshop taught participants on various topics such as Promoting Peaceful Electoral Environment Through Conflict Prevention and Resolution, Anti-Human Trafficking and Migrants Smuggling, Community Policing, Voter Trucking and Basic Border Management, Election Integrity, and Analyzing Social Media News Content, among others.<\/p>\n

The workshop was held under the theme: Promoting Peaceful Electoral Environment and Community Security in Liberia. The training session sought to build capacity development for joint security actors, local authorities, women, and youth groups to reinforce peace corridors in identified hotspot areas including border communities to respond to risks associated with potential issues arising from voter trucking.<\/p>\n

The TOT workshop was organized and facilitated by CECPAP with funding provided by the UN Peacebuilding Fund. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is supervising the implementation of the workshop. <\/b><\/p>\n
