Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Ahead of the October 10th presidential and legislative elections, an elder of Nimba County, William N. Kanneh, C.K.A. \u201cAmerican\u201d, warns President George Weah not to listen to wrong advice if he must retain the presidency.<\/p>\n\u201cToday, I have come to caution our President not to follow the footsteps of former President Tolbert, who didn\u2019t follow instructions from President Tubman\u201d, says Elder Kanneh, who walked into the offices of the NEW DAWN on UN Drive Tuesday, 17 May for an interview.<\/p>\n
According to him, the current economic hardship that has engulfed the country is the result of the late President Tolbert\u2019s failure to take advice, thereby listening to wrong advices.<\/p>\n
He says if Liberia will get back on the right trajectory, President Weah should stand his ground and reject bad advices coming from some of his officials.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe reason I thought to visit this office is to reveal that the root cause of the suffering that Liberians are going through today was as a result of the late William R. Tolbert\u201d, he notes.<\/p>\n
According to him, the late President William V.S. Tubman wrote and instructed the late Dr. William R. Tolbert, Jr., then his Vice President that upon his demise he (Tolbert) shouldn\u2019t allow book people with AK 47 because the Americans were still here supporting the country.<\/p>\n
He names the late Interim President, Dr. Amos C. Sawyer, veteran economist Dr. Togba Nah Topoteh, the late Liberian politicians G. Baccus Matthews, Dr. Marcus Dahn and Oscar Quiah, who were book people that Tolbert allowed to participate in the electoral process of the country, adding that is multiparty system.<\/p>\n
\u201cTolbert refused to listen to the advice of President William V.S. Tubman not to bring plenty book people because Liberia at the time, we didn\u2019t have sufficient book people in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
Elder Kanneh continues that the coming of those individuals into the political space of Liberia is the root cause of the country\u2019s prolonged problems.<\/p>\n
However, he expresses optimism that President Weah will not allow any of his cabinet Ministers to give him wrong advice, saying \u201cI think this President is the best for Liberia because of his admittance that he has no idea on politics.<\/p>\n
We all know the impact politics has on a person, and we\u2019re excited that our President has said he\u2019s not a politician; so I\u2019m convinced that he will not listen to wrong advice that will come.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Elder Kanneh says Liberia under President Weah is by far better off, and that those who continue to complain of hardship are the lazy type of people.<\/p>\n
\u201cLook, there is no suffering here, the President told us to go back to the soil and be our own security; those who failed to do so are the ones complaining about suffering.\u201d<\/p>\n
