Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Joint Security, in a special meeting convened at the Ministry of Justice on Tuesday, 9 November 2021, reviewed every aspect of the national security situation in Liberia and resolved to augment its Community Policing Program.<\/p>\n

It also resolved to increase foot and mobile patrols, as a means of combating crimes in the communities, a release says. The joint security measures are announced in the wake of continuous brutal murders of both high profile and ordinary citizens which in many cases, happened in the homes of the victims during night hours.<\/p>\n

It remains unclear who is behind these killings, and the motives for such brutal crimes remain unknown. On Tuesday, 2 November 2021, the Government of Liberia announced the death of Liberia\u2019s Peace Ambassador Rev. William R. Tolbert, III, and youngest son of slain Liberian President Dr. William R. Tolbert, Jr.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Information, Rev. Tolbert was discovered dead at his residence in Monrovia on Sunday, 31 October in what the Liberia National Police described as a suspected homicide.<\/p>\n

That same day, victim Maude Elliott, a female officer of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) who was said to be in her 50s, was found brutally murdered at home in Brewerville, outside Monrovia.<\/p>\n

Earlier on 22 September 22 this year, 76-year-old John Hilary Tubman, the son of another former Liberian President, William V.S. Tubman was reportedly found dead, lying face down in a pool of blood.<\/p>\n

The late Hilary\u2019s body was discovered with deep cuts to his neck and forehead with a pillow placed over his head at his residence in Fiamah community, Monrovia. These recent killings are just a few of many other brutal cases of suspicious deaths that have kept Liberians panicking.<\/p>\n

However, the Joint Security also renewed its commitment to the protection of the general populace and called on the public not to panic, as it rolled out several measures to enhance security.<\/p>\n

Regarding investigation into the current deaths of Mr. John Tubman, Reverend William R. Tolbert III, and Madam Maude Elliott, the Joint Security have constituted a Special Investigation Panel. The panel is composed of Criminal Investigation Experts from each of the security agencies to conduct a comprehensive and exhaustive investigation.<\/p>\n

The panel is mandated to consider every element of the investigation. Meanwhile, several individuals, including relatives of the deceased persons, private security guards, drivers, and others have been declared Persons of Interest to these investigations.<\/p>\n

The Joint Security assures the public that all is being done to ensure that perpetrators are arrested and made to face the full weight of the law. \u201cHence, the cooperation of members of the public, in assisting investigators with useful information leading to the arrest of perpetrators, is also needed,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n
