Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Flooding in Ganta on Monday night halted activities at the Guaranty Trust Bank and Lucky Pharmacy after a heavy downpour that lasted for about 10 hours until June 20.<\/p>\n

The heavy rain started at about 11 p.m. on June 19, and continued up to 9 a.m. on June 20, 2023, obstructing work at the two major business institutions and leaving some communities deserted.<\/p>\n

Flooding severely damaged a World Food Programme-funded farm project along the St. John River Bank, submerging all 120 of the farm’s plots.<\/p>\n

One of the most affected community residents, Yar Gorgboyee, claimed that in the more than 18 years she has lived there, she has not experienced any flooding.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been living around this creek for over 19 years, and we have never encountered this kind of flooding, where all our belongings have been destroyed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Her house is close to the Lucky Pharmacy and the GT Bank, but the mattresses and the entire house were submerged in water.<\/p>\n

The two major business institutions were unable to conduct business on June 19 and into the early hours of June 20, 2023, leaving some communities deserted.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Lucky Pharmacy claimed that some medical drug quantities were lost because the cartons were wet in the main warehouse, but it did not specify how many drugs were lost or how much money was lost.<\/p>\n

The Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia’s Ganta headquarters was also submerged, and documents could be seen floating away in the mist.<\/p>\n

Before arriving at the Ganta Police Station from the direction of Gbarnga, the GT Bank, the Lucky Pharmacy, and the FRTUL office are located in a low land area close to a Mblagboe Creek.<\/p>\n

The flood water swallowed nearly all the goods in the warehouse of the FRTUL, but the manager remains tight-lipped on the cost of losses.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince this office was built over 20 years ago, this is the first time to experience this kind of flooding,\u201d said a commercial driver at the FRTUL office.<\/p>\n

Those living around the lowlands were seen bringing their Mattresses and other household materials outside for drying, but the poor weather conditions continued to hinder normal activities.<\/p>\n
