Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Former vice president Joseph Boakai has named Senator Nyonbelee Karnga Lawrence to head his campaign team for the October 2023 presidential and legislative elections.<\/p>\nBoakai, who is the standard bearer of the opposition Unity Party, and a running mate to Nimba County senator Jeremiah Koung, believes that with Karnga-Lawrence at the helm of his campaign, his party stands a huge chance to score a one-round victory against the George Weah administration.<\/p>\n
“As we have said, our target is one round,” Boakai said.<\/p>\n
Lawrence, a prominent politician who hails from Grand Bassa County, is co-chaired by Prince Moye, Bong County Senator as campaign manager, Amin Modad national vice-chaired for planning and research, Senator James Biney, national vice-chaired for administration, and Montserrado County Senator Darius Dillon, a member of the campaign team.<\/p>\n
Other members include MaCdella Cooper, head of the Movement for One Liberia (MOL), Dr. Alaric Tokpah, senior political advisor, Mo Ali, campaign spokesman, Jacob Smith, liaison officer, Gbarpolu County Senator Botoe Kanneh, Cllr. Cooper Kruah, Miatta Fahnbulleh, and former Senator Sando Johnson.<\/p>\n
The 2023 presidential and legislative elections will be held on October 10. There are over 15 political parties, but notable among them are the UP, headed by Boakai; Alexander B Cummings, Alternative National Congress (ANC) and the head of the Collaborating Political Party (CPP); and incumbent president George Weah of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).<\/p>\n
Former VP Boakai, who served as vice president for 12 years under the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf administration, said Liberia is in darkness, and only the rescue mission can save the country. \u201cWe will take Liberia from darkness to light.\u201d<\/p>\n
Karnga-Lawrence\u2019s appointment was made on July 2, at her 55th birthday celebration held at the Farmington Hotel, Margibi County.<\/p>\n
Affectionately called, “the rescue team”, the Boakai-Koung ticket is campaigning on the platform to \u201crescue\u201d Liberia from bad governance, poverty, and a messy education system.<\/p>\n
Lawrence is now referred to by partisans as a \u201crescue mother\u201d.<\/p>\n
The celebration was intended to raise money for the rescue mission\u2019s poll watchers and election observers.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, the only thing I will say is thank you. We are having this celebration to remind us that after today, it is time to work,\u201d Senator Lawrence said.<\/p>\n
\u201cLiberians and international partners are concerned about this election. To recruit poll watchers, and observers to train and prepare to win.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event began with a red carpet and photoshoots for guests and invitees. Chairing the fundraiser dinner was MacDella Cooper, head of the Movement for One Liberia (MOL).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to raise 3 million United States dollars, and we are starting today with a hundred dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are here to kill two birds with one stone. We are here to celebrate life and raise funds to protect our upcoming votes because we know what is at stake. When someone is enjoying something, it is hard for him to let it go.\u201d<\/p>\n
Accepting her appointment, Senator Lawrence said: \u201cIt is time to work. I want to promote the rescue team we will deliver on the first round.\u201d<\/p>\n
