Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Chairman of the National Traditional Council of Liberia and this year’s Independence Day Orator, Chief Zanzan Kawor has urged Liberians to pay their taxes for the development of Liberia.<\/p>\n

“We the traditional people are ready to pay our taxes in order to support the development of our country. This is because without the payment of taxes, there will be no development,” Kawor said.<\/p>\n

Kawor make the remarks on July 26, 2023 at the observance of the nation’s 176th Independence Day Celebration held at the Centennial Pavilion on Ashmun Street in Monrovia.<\/p>\n

As always, this year’s Independence Day Celebration brought together government officials, diplomatic corps, President of Ghana Nana Addo D. Akufo-Addo, the President of The Gambia Adama Barrow, and Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba as well as the traditional people.<\/p>\n

Kawor said his selection to serve as this year’s Independence Day Orator shows that the President George M. Weah is not a mistake as it shows the level of respect and honor the President has for the culture and Traditional people of this Country and a clear demonstration of their contribution as a traditional people to nation building.<\/p>\n

He said the traditional people fought for the land called Liberia and continued to protect the land.<\/p>\n

“We the traditional people we love this country and our children. Liberians are Christians, Muslims and the Traditional people of Liberia. Our Culture and Religion have established norms that must be respected at all times. Our culture also says that we must respect our leaders and so we don’t fight our President,” he said.<\/p>\n

He said that is why the traditional Leaders of this Country agreed based on the request of President George Manneh Weah, to let go harmful practices in our culture including female genital mutilation which is banned.<\/p>\n

Kawor called on the authority of the National Elections Commission (NEC) to ensure that the 2023 October 10 polls is free, fair and transparent.<\/p>\n

“As Liberia celebrates 176 years of independence, all Liberians including the government, political parties, private citizens and the media people, we all have the responsibility to keep this country peaceful and safe.<\/p>\n

He calls on political parties to talk to their followers especially the youths to stop those things that will bring violence during and after the elections.<\/p>\n
