Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine, the Vice Presidential running mate of Alexander Cummings, launched a scathing attack on the former ruling Unity Party’s “rescue mission.”<\/p>\nThe Unity Party, which held power for 12 years before the Weah administration, had introduced the “rescue mission” as a campaign slogan for the October 10 polls.<\/p>\n
The party under former Vice President Joseph Boakai believes that the Weah government \u2018has failed miserably and it is only he and the Unity that has what it takes to rescue the country from\u2019 \u201cfurther mess.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Brumskine believes that the Unity Party’s so-called ‘rescue mission’ was nothing more than a web of empty promises and hollow rhetoric.<\/p>\n
According to Brumskine, the Unity Party, during its 12 years of rule, engaged in corruption and mismanagement, which exacerbated the poverty situation of the county, which is now being made worse by the Weah administration.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a total mockery that the political leaders of the former ruling party are referring to themselves as rescuers when Liberians were in search of a redeemer during their reign. The rescue agenda is a farce,\u201d Brumskine said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want us to be righteously angry to the level of suffering that is happening, but I want us to be more angry that the ruling party, from which the CDC (Weah ruling Coalition) decided to rescue us after 12 years of mismanagement, is now telling the Liberian people to go back from where they were rescued from,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Brumskine noted that Boakai and his Unity Party were entrusted with 12 years to improve the lives of the people but ultimately fell short of their promises.<\/p>\n
She added it is now time for Liberians to see reason and grant others the opportunity “to accomplish what both the Unity Party and the current CDC administration have been unable to achieve for the people of Liberia.\u201d<\/p>\n
The daughter of the late legal luminary and founder of the Liberty Party, Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine made the remarks following the return support of some members of the party who were once part of Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence of Grand Bassa County faction when the Liberty Party was in chaos.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Brumskine also frowned on the decision of Lawrence, and others to abandon the party for the former ruling Unity Party.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don’t need people that will jump from one institution to the another depending on the popularity of the institution,\u201d she said. \u201cWe need people who will stand no matter what for Liberia.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brumskine noted that greed and petty interests on the part of politicians had tainted Liberian politics which is bad for the welfare of the nation.<\/p>\n
\u201c I want everyone to know that UP and a few others have been the reason that our institution has been torn apart,\u201d Brumskine added. \u201cWhen I look at the intentional efforts of the political institution who wants to come into power to destroy the Liberty Party.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, Daniel Sando, an aide to Lawrence and former senior official of the party accused Brumskine of only seeking political \u201crelevance at the expense of his boss.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sando noted that Brumskine’s actions are primarily aimed at generating public relations to mitigate the repercussions of certain desperate moves and mistakes she has made since entering politics.<\/p>\n
\u201cCharlyne is a daughter of the founding father of Liberty Party and she\u2019s doing everything humanly possible to tear down, derail, denigrate, and destroy the legality of her father.<\/p>\n
When Cllr. [Charles] Brumskine was alive, he turned the party over to Senator Lawrence as a political leader. Why would Charlylne Brumskine be fighting the legitimate leadership of the party?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo by virtue of her action, she has derailed the political legacy of her father so she ought to even be ashamed of herself.\u201d<\/p>\n
