Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), has postponed the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match between Liberia and Morocco after a devastated earthquake in Marrakech Morocco.<\/a><\/p>\n

The AFCON qualifier match between the two nations was due to take place on Saturday, September 9th in the Morocco city of Agadir.<\/p>\n

But following a 6.8 magnitude eaquake near Marrakech late on Friday night, which leave a over 1000 people dead and 1,400 person serious injured, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation reached decision with CAF to postpone the match.<\/p>\n

The release read: \u201cFollowing the earthquake that affected some regions in Morocco, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation announces the postponement of the match that was to take place on Saturday evening, September 9, 2023, between the national team and its Liberian counterpart, in the final round of the qualifiers for the 2024 African Cup of Nations \u2013 Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire; Until a later time, in agreement with the Confederation of African Football.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter this great injury, the national football family extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and wishes a speedy recovery to all the injured.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liberia Football Association confirmed that every member of its delegation was safe.<\/p>\n

The Football house, however, expressed its deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to the people of Morocco over the loss of lives and the destruction brought by the earthquake on the evening of Friday.<\/p>\n

LFA statement read: \u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with the people of Morocco during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, the LFA would like to inform the families and loved ones of its delegation in Agadir, Morocco, that each and every member of the delegation is safe following Friday\u2019s night disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liberia however don\u2019t have a chance of qualifying for the finals of the Nations following defeats to Morocco and South America and a draw.<\/p>\n
