Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Liberia Council of Churches has issued a strong condemnation following the violent incident that took place on Friday, September 29, 2023, in Foyah, Lofa County, which resulted in the tragic loss of three lives.<\/p>\n

In a press statement released by the Council, they expressed their utmost disapproval of the violence and called upon all citizens of Foyah, Lofa County, to remain calm while state security forces work to regain control of the situation.<\/p>\n

<\/a>The Council of Churches, in its statement, urgently called on the Joint Security to initiate a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the incident to ensure that those responsible for the brutal acts are brought to justice.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Council urged the Unity Party and Coalition of Democratic Change, who are believed to be at the center of the fracas, to cooperate fully with the Joint Security in the investigation. This appeal for cooperation is seen as a crucial step toward resolving the matter and maintaining peace in the region.<\/p>\n

The Liberia Council of Churches also addressed Liberia\u2019s youth, emphasizing the importance of their responsibilities as future leaders and the inheritors of the nation. They strongly discouraged the involvement of young people in acts of violence orchestrated by politicians. The Council described such acts as \u201cungodly, inhumane, and unpatriotic\u201d and reminded the youth that Liberia has endured significant hardships in the past.<\/p>\n

As Liberia prepares for the upcoming elections scheduled for October 10th, 2023, the Council of Churches reiterated its earlier call for heightened state security measures to prevent and address any incidents that could disrupt the electoral process. Their concern is that such disruptions could jeopardize the integrity of the elections.<\/p>\n
