Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The US Embassy in Liberia has called on all parties who participated in the recent October 10 polls to accept the results peacefully as they represent the will of the Liberian voters.On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), announced that none of the Presidential candidates obtained the constitutional requirement of 50% plus one vote in the October 10 election. She, however, unveiled November 14, 2023, as the set day for the Presidential runoff election between incumbent President George M. Weah and Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph N. Boakai, which will occur 14 days from now.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the U.S. Embassy stated that any outstanding grievances related to the election should be resolved through Liberia\u2019s established legal processes.<\/p>\n

The Embassy commended the commitment and dedication displayed by the citizens of Liberia in exercising their right to vote and engaging in the electoral process peacefully.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Embassy also recognized that international and domestic observers have applauded the professional conduct and transparency of the NEC and noted the generally peaceful atmosphere at voting polls across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States continues to follow the electoral process closely as the NEC prepares for a presidential runoff election,\u201d the communication stated.<\/p>\n

Emphasizing, \u201cWe encourage all candidates, supporters, and parties to express themselves peacefully and respect the rule of law. Our expectation and desire for the Liberian people is that the Presidential runoff election be free, fair, and peaceful, as Liberians choose their next president.\u201d<\/p>\n
