{"id":46755,"date":"2023-11-07T11:10:13","date_gmt":"2023-11-07T11:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/liberia\/all-news\/liberia-reckless-and-lawless-former-supreme-court-justice-describes-the-weah-led-government"},"modified":"2023-11-07T11:17:16","modified_gmt":"2023-11-07T11:17:16","slug":"liberia-reckless-and-lawless-former-supreme-court-justice-describes-the-weah-led-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/liberia\/all-news\/liberia-reckless-and-lawless-former-supreme-court-justice-describes-the-weah-led-government","title":{"rendered":"Liberia: \u201cReckless and Lawless\u201d \u2013 Former Supreme Court Justice Describes The Weah-led Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Former Associate Justice Kabineh Muhammad Ja\u2019neh, the man that was removed from the Supreme Court during the early stage of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) led government says President George Weah is not governing by the rule of law and as such should not be given the second term as President of Liberia.Supreme Court Associate Justice Ja\u2019neh in 2019 was impeached by the Legislature for granting a Writ of Prohibition petitioned by petroleum dealers in the country to stop the government from collecting levy\/taxes of US$0.25 (road fund) imposed on the pump price of petroleum products, the decision he (former Justice Ja\u2019neh) said was illegal.<\/p>\n<p>The case was later sent to the ECOWAS Court by former Supreme Court Justice and in June 2021 the ECOWAS court ordered that the Liberian government pays Justice Ja\u2019neh all his retirement benefits.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Liberian government attempted to have the Judgement of the ECOWAS Court of Justice that ordered the payment of all entitlements including salaries to illegally impeached Supreme Court Justice Kabineh Ja\u2019neh trashed but such plan by the government was denied by the Community Court.<\/p>\n<p>The Community Court on June 4 in Abuja, Nigeria, ruled dismissing the appeal filed by the Government of Liberia in February of 2021. Despite the court dismissal, the government is yet to pay all Justice Ja\u2019neh\u2019s retirement benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with journalists over the weekend when he endorsed the Unity Party Standard-bearer Joseph Boakai in the Presidential run-off election, Cllr. Ja\u2019neh said the CDC-led government does not respect court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>According to Cllr. Ja\u2019neh, anyone who think his decision to endorse former Vice President Boakai is influenced by his removal from the Supreme Court Bench during the first term of the CDC-led government have a point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiberia is a country that is governed by the rule of law. This is a reckless, lawless government. They have never respected court decisions both locally and internationally,\u201d Cllr. Ja\u2019neh said.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cWhat we are trying to do now is to say that let\u2019s create an opportunity for the Liberian state to have a transformation from this to a better Liberia. A Liberia where it will be governed by the rule of law. Without it, we are bound to fail again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cllr. Ja\u2019neh said considering the challenges Liberia is currently faced with November 14 is an extraordinary civic duty and should be taking seriously by all well-meaning Liberian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am seizing this opportunity to speak to the sense of patriotism of all my fellow Liberians. I urge all Liberian voters to take stock of the prevailing political, social, and economic situation in Liberia. As we all know what Liberia faces today is massive uncontrolled corruption at all levels of governance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the \u201clooting\u201d of public resources is at an industrial scale adding that President Weah runs a government that has a total disregard for the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur country is in a state of recklessness close to chaos. This trend must be stopped and reversed immediately. The last thing any patriotic citizen would want to see in Liberia is a return to lawlessness. On November 14, 2023, we must each vote to the course of events in our country, we can each do this,\u201d Mr. Ja\u2019neh said.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cBy casting our vote for Joseph Nyumah Boakai as President and Jeremiah Kpaan Koung as Vice President. The bleeding of our economy under the Weah administration will come to an end now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that Unity Party\u2019s ticket provides an opportunity for a change for a better Liberia. Stating that voting for Boakai and Koung will return Liberia to a state of stability, sanity, and the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiberia cannot go deeper any further in the pit of lawlessness. I therefore urge every Liberian who believes in us to vote as we will do for JNB and JKK ticket. I also believe that we as a country are going through dire times, hence no one playing a leadership role in this country can justify the pretense of neutrality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr. Ja\u2019neh added: \u201cIt is simply cowardly to say I am not taking sides in these elections. It is also a lack of leadership and courage to pretend not to take sides; for in a situation like this, there is no neutrality.
