Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Liberian National Red Cross Society has donated 50 bags of rice, two sets of pots, ten gallons of oil, and 26 packs of toothpaste to the Monrovia Central Prison.<\/p>\n

Marking the donation over the weekend, the Secretary General of the Liberian Red Cross, Gregory Blamo, said the intervention is to address some of the challenges the Central Prison faces especially, food, adding that they as a Red Cross thought to look in-house and see how they can make a small contribution.<\/p>\n

Mr. Blamo added that he always told people and colleagues that times are hard yet they still have to try to see how they can help.<\/p>\n

He said the donation marks a significant step in the Red Cross\u2019s ongoing commitment to humanitarian aid, especially to vulnerable members of society.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe donation comprises 50 bags of rice, two sets of pots, ten gallons of oil, and 26 packs of toothpaste, all of which we hope will provide some relief and comfort to the individuals within the Monrovia Prison Center\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

He said the LNRC firmly believes in the transformative power of compassion, and through the donation it aims to make a positive impact on the lives of inmates in the country.<\/p>\n

He is optimistic that assorted food and non-food items donated will help to improve the overall well-being of the inmates and create an environment that fosters resilience and compassion.<\/p>\n

According to Mr. Blamo, they encourage ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the Liberian Red Cross and the Monrovia Central Prison, as well as with other stakeholders to continue fostering resilience, compassion positive change in the society.<\/p>\n

In response, the Superintendent of the Monrovia Central Prison (MCP) Varney G. Lake, said the facility is grateful for partnership with the Liberian Red Cross, which has been dormant for some time but is being reawakened.<\/p>\n

He noted that as Mr. Blamo said, the Red Cross can\u2019t solve all the problems faced by inmates but will make interventions from time to time as the need arises.<\/p>\n

He spoke of congestion at the Central Prison and stressed the urgent need for blankets, mats, and buckets, among others. <\/b><\/p>\n
