Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Senate Pro Tempore Albert Tugbe Chie has termed as misleading and false the allegation levied against him of soliciting, accepting, and offering bribes to manipulate legislative processes and public funding, including legislative reporting and mining sector activities.<\/p>\n

In that regard, the Grand Kru County Senator has vowed to take advantage of every legal means available in the United States to ensure that his name and that of his family members are removed from visa restrictions.<\/p>\n

Senator Chie made the statement yesterday during the Senate\u2019s first day sitting of its ten-day extended session, and a few hours later, he, along with Margibi County Senator Emmanuel Nuquay and Minister of Finance and Development Planning, were placed on the US visa restriction list.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe allegations are misleading and false. I haven\u2019t given a dime to any lawmaker or chamber to manipulate any legislative process.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also accused the US government of the wrong timing for the sanction, noting that it comes just a few weeks before the elections of the Senate leadership, something he said is a concern worth nothing.<\/p>\n

\u201cDistinguished colleagues, let me let you know, and I know you are already aware of the allegations against Tweh, Nuquay, and I that we have solicited bribes from public and private sources and given them to you to influence the legislative process, impugn on your integrity as well, and you will take the appropriate action individually, especially and collectively as your wisdom dictates. No matter from which angle you look at it, that attack is on all legislators, whether from the ruling position, from the opposition, or from no position.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pursuant to Section 7031(c), the United States publicly designated Samuel Tweah, Albert Chie, and Emmanuel Nuquay for their involvement in significant corruption by abusing their public positions through soliciting, accepting, and offering bribes to manipulate legislative processes and public funding, including legislative reporting and mining sector activity, the U.S. Department of State said in a statement on December 12.<\/p>\n

As part of the sanctions, immediate family members of the three men are also designated, including their spouses, Delecia Berry Tweah, Abigail Chie, Ruthtoria Brown Nuquay, and Tweah\u2019s and Nuquay\u2019s minor children.<\/p>\n
