Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>In 2012, 2018 and 2024 respectively, Madam Mildred Sayon was elected unopposed and is considered the longest serving Chief Clerk in post-war Liberia.<\/p>\n

The Members of the House of Representatives in the 55th Legislature have overwhelmingly reelected Chief Clerk Mildred N. Sayon for her 3rd term and Sergeant-at-Arms Martin Johnson for his 5th term.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the House has elected C. Cormicks Chea, the former stenographer as deputy chief clerk, succeeding G. Sayfurh Geplay, who passed away in October 2023 after a prolonged illness. These elections fill the leadership gap left by the dissolution of the 54th Legislature and the inception of the 55th Legislature.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the House elected Rep. J. Fonati Koffa (CDC, District #2, Grand Kru County) as Speaker and Rep. Thomas Fallah (CDC, District #1, Lofa County) as Deputy Speaker.<\/p>\n

Their elections align with Article 49, stating, \u201cThe House of Representatives shall elect once every six years a Speaker who shall be the presiding officer of that body, a Deputy Speaker, and such other officers shall ensure the proper functioning of the House. The Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, and other officers so elected may be removed from office for cause by resolution of a two-thirds majority of the members of the House.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sergeant-at-Arm Johnson was elected unopposed for the 5th term following the withdrawal of Deputy Sergeant-at-arm Morris Gibson.<\/p>\n

Madam Sayon, 51, and General Johnson, 59, were re-elected on Tuesday during the 2nd-day sitting of the 1st Quarter of the House of Representatives of the 55th Legislative of the Republic of Liberia.<\/p>\n

Following the oath of office administered by Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, Madam Sayon expressed gratitude for the unanimous election and pledged to work diligently with the House to ensure the people\u2019s work is accomplished.<\/p>\n

The House elected C. Cormicks Chea, former stenographer as deputy chief clerk. Chea succeeding G. Sayfurh Geplay, who passed away in October 2023 after a prolonged illness.<\/p>\n

Madam Sayon, hailing from Harper City, Maryland County, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration (BBA) and a Master\u2019s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Liberia. She served as Junior Stenographer from 1997 to 2006 and Deputy Chief Clerk from 2006 to 2010 in the 52nd Legislature. After the death of Chief Clerk Atty. James Kaba in 2010, Madam Sayon was elected chief clerk to end the term of her predecessor.<\/p>\n

In 2012, 2018 and 2024 respectively, she went unopposed and is already being considered as the longest serving chief clerk in post-war Liberia.<\/p>\n

Sergeant-at-Arm Johnson was elected unopposed for the 5th term following the withdrawal of Deputy Sergeant-at-arm Morris Gibson, who maintained his position.<\/p>\n

General Johnson has since been Sergeant-at-arms from the era of the Liberia National Transitional Government (LNTG).<\/p>\n
