Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The nation bade a final farewell to the late Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Thomas Doe Nah, in a poignant ceremony held on Thursday in Monrovia. The somber occasion took place at the Stephen Trowen Nagbe United Methodist Church in Sinkor, concluding with the interment at Kaiser Cemetery in Brewerville, on the outskirts of Monrovia.<\/p>\n

President George Manneh Weah, former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Yuoh, Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, and a host of government officials, family, friends, and colleagues gathered to pay their respects at the funeral service.<\/p>\n

Foreign Minister Maxwell Saah Kemayah, delivering the eulogy on behalf of President Weah, described Nah as a true patriot, a dedicated public servant, an astute reformist, and a devout Christian. Minister Kemayah emphasized the irreparable loss felt by the government and encouraged the bereaved family to find solace in their faith. He highlighted Nah\u2019s significant contributions to the LRA, bringing added value to the institution.<\/p>\n

Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, representing the Legislature, praised Nah as a diligent servant of the country. Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Yuoh said Nah was a visionary whose advise was pivotal in helping the judiciary to improve in the use of technology.<\/p>\n

Thomas Doe Nah passed away in December 2023 after a prolonged illness while receiving treatment in India. Having led the LRA since September 2018, he played a pivotal role in enhancing revenue collection to support Liberia\u2019s Pro-poor agenda. His commitment to public service and leadership in the financial sector left an indelible mark on the nation.<\/p>\n

Before assuming the role of Commissioner General at the LRA, Mr. Doe Nah held key positions in various organizations. He served as the Project Lead for Access to Information (ATI) at The Carter Center, contributing significantly to initiatives promoting transparency and accessibility in Liberia from January 2017 to September 2018. Earlier in his career, he served as the Executive Director of the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL), reinforcing the organization\u2019s commitment to good governance and anti-corruption efforts from April 2008 to January 2017.<\/p>\n

His dedication to transparency extended to roles such as the National Coordinator for the Coalition for Transparency and Accountability in Education (COTAE) from January 2013 to April 2015, focusing on accountability in the education sector.<\/p>\n

Mr. Doe Nah also contributed to the international financial sector, holding positions at the US Embassy in Monrovia, International Bank Liberia Limited, and the Liberian Bank for Development and Investment. His career, spanning from 1997 to 2023, significantly impacted Liberia\u2019s financial landscape.<\/p>\n

The nation mourns the loss of a distinguished public servant, and Thomas Doe Nah\u2019s legacy will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and the betterment of Liberia.<\/p>\n
