The Liberian and U.S. governments have reaffirmed their commitment to diplomatic partnership and cooperation, a day after Liberia\u2019s new President Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai was sworn in.<\/p>\n

President Boakai and Amb. Linda Thomas Greenfield, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) who headed her country\u2019s delegation to Boakai\u2019s inauguration, had a day-long bilateral diplomatic meeting at the President\u2019s residence in Rehab, Paynesville.<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview with journalists following the end of the meeting, President Boakai said the closed-door diplomatic meeting was intended to recalibrate the partnership and cooperation between both countries.<\/p>\n

During the conversation, Mr. Boakai said he informed the United States Government through its representatives that Liberia will respect the partnership and cooperation that exist between both countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have just told her that Liberia has been a partner to America for a very long time. We will ensure that we respect that partnership by making sure we put the country on the right path so that the people can benefit from it,\u201d Amb. Boakai noted.<\/p>\n

For her, Amb. Linda Thomas Greenfield expressed congratulations to President Boakai and appreciation to the people of Liberia for having a stable transition.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the message I brought from the President, the people of the United States, was our continued support for Liberia, the reaffirmation of our partnership,\u201d the U.S. Envoy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been in partnership for many, many years. We are looking forward to working with the new administration to see that Liberia goes forward in a positive direction,\u201d she stated further.<\/p>\n

According to her, the resources that are here in Liberia should support the people of Liberia in terms of education, health, as well as infrastructure development.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m traveling with the USAID director to address some of those issues with the President as well. We support Liberia, and we support the private sector,\u201d Amb. Greenfield stated.<\/p>\n

According to her, the U.S. encourages the private sector to invest not only in Liberia but for them to have confidence in the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, I\u2019m very, very confident that President Boakai will provide that confidence to the private sector. They are willing to work and come back to Liberia,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
