Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>In a decisive move to fortify transparency and financial accountability, Mr. David Kemah, the Director General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), announced the commissioning of a special audit on the inaugural activities of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah K. Koung of the Republic of Liberia.<\/p>\n

Director Kemah unveiled the comprehensive audit during a press briefing at his Congo Town office, where he emphasized the agency\u2019s commitment to conducting specialized assessments of government-initiated programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cA communication is being sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that the necessary documents can be made available to us, allowing a meticulous review of the financial and operational activities surrounding the inauguration,\u201d stated Director Kemah.<\/p>\n

He outlined the audit\u2019s significance, noting that it aligns with one of the core pillars of President Boakai\u2019s campaign \u2013 transparency and integrity in the public sector. \u201cWe think that this should be the beginning of that process so that the Liberian people can get to know exactly how much funds were made available and how those funds were expended,\u201d added Director Kemah.<\/p>\n

The budget for the inauguration, recently approved at a sum of US$650,000, has prompted increased scrutiny. Atty. Samuel Kofi Woods, Chair of the Joint Presidential Transition Team, confirmed that the budget received approval from President Weah, and the former government cooperated fully with the transition process.<\/p>\n

However, a specific breakdown of the budget was not provided, raising questions about the allocation and utilization of funds.<\/p>\n

Director Kemah affirmed that the audit findings will be compiled and expeditiously submitted to the office of the President as soon as the necessary information is acquired.<\/p>\n

The initiative underscores the government’s dedication to upholding integrity in its operations and fostering public trust in the management of official functions, according to Director Kemah.<\/p>\n
